The Glass Eyeby
flip89Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club:
This is my first critique, so i'll try to do my best. I hope I can be of some help.
Composition: I like the way you have agressively cropped this image. It works very well, much better than if you had shown the whole face. I especially like the partial nose. Only a little thing here that bothers me: that pink area in upper RH corner throws off the BG.
Subject: I think it is a very creative photo and subject matter is very interresting. The eyelashes in the magnifying glass are especially great.
Challenge: Meets the challenge topic well. Creative way to get DOF. I don't feel that the DOF needs to be more pronounced to achieve what the topic was requiring. Your main subject stands out very well from the BG.
Technical: Colours are OK, but could perhaps to be a little more intense. Focus on the main eye is very good, overall quality of the image is good. Good detail in the eye. One main thing bothers me here, mainly the reflections in the glass. Perhaps not having the bright light source behind the camera would have eliminated this.
Border: I'm not sure I like this strong of a border. I like the outer black, but probably would have gone with much less white inner border, 1-2 pixels perhaps.
Overall: I think you managed to find an interresting subject and make an original photo to enter in the challenge. It works for me. I'd be very curious to see how this photo would look in BW. I think there is lots to work with here (lots of texture).
Good work!
