An Eggshell As I First Discovered It This Morningby dixileopardComment: Meets the challenge perfectly. DOF seems to be everyone's nemisis in this challenge, I wish there was a little less of it here. The title is good.
My only problem with this picture is that the egg shell is slightly overexposed, especially on the top side. One stop less (or a little more messing around in PS) could bring the entire photo to a more plesing level, at least for me. |

Wonderby dwolffComment: Meets the challenge criteria well.
A pretty photo, with the blue sky so vibrant, and the baloon in such sharp contrast.
Critique: Overexposed. I wish the top right side of the ballon wasn't washed out. A solid attempt. |

Out of Placeby cools98Comment: Perfect subject and application of the challenge.
Very well done overall. DOF is perfect, and the title is catchy.
Only criticism is that the highly reflective surfaces reflect too much of the flash, and I think I can make out the photographer. Try some diffusion next time, bouncing the flash off a card or a similar technique. |

Curious Visitorby renatapessaComment: This picture perfectly meets the challenge, great job with the composition.
DOF is really too shallow, I'd like to see all of the bug in focus as well as a little of whatever it is he's standing on, otherwise it's just too abstract.
Interesting critter though! |

Tasmanian Devilby GinaRothfelsComment: I think I see what you're going for here, with the subject squarely on the right third line. However, there's too much other stuff in the picture to really keep one's eyes directly on that spot. I'm also not sure I like the saturation/color washing that you did. As a whole I think that technique is overused, and really needs to add something to the picture to make it effective. That doesn't happen for me here.
The subject itself could have made an interesting study, if he was willing to cooperate. |

First Leaf of Autumnby jimmspComment: Outstanding! The color is so vibrant in this image. Very clearly meets the challenge. The shadow behind the leaf is perfect.
What could be better with this image? The hair/crack/whatever just above and to the left of the leaf is distracting. The rest of the "schmutz" in the cracks is OK, but I think the picture would be a little better without it. I would love to know if you just happend upon this or set it up.
Excellent job! A very strong 9. |

Made to be Brokenby JHComment: This picture is absolutley amazing.
1) Incredibly creative take on the challenge
2) Excellent technical execution
3) Hauntingly spooky facial expression (perfect!)
4) Creative title
My only critique is that the light seems a bit harsh, especially around the 13mm point on the ruler and glare on the pencil. Perhaps a diffuser on the light source would have balanced that out a little bit... unless your goal was to draw the eye to the 1/3rds point that is there... in which case incredibly well done! |

Workin' Dogby roadrunnerComment: Outstanding! Love the tone. How did you get the pup to stand still? :)
The wall at the top right is a little too washed out, and I don't think the whole picture would have suffered if you had brought down the levels just a "smidge."
Great job! |

Ice Cream Socialby sibelingComment: I humbly disagree who state that the booth in the foreground shouln't be there.
The overall emptyness of the place and the general sense of age is what makes this photo for me. If you had gone closer in and only gotten the women at the table you would have lost all the character and feel of the setting.
Still a VERY strong photo in my opinion, and one of my favorites from the challenge. |

Milk2Butterby YoungerComment: I had another thought on this one... Bring the butter _into_ the beaker to complete the "tranformation" of milk into butter. |
