At first, the image appears brash, in your face, clear, but there is so much more there, hidden in the shadows, subtle, gentle even, behind that thrashing of pain . . . humanity, perhaps.

Gulls

Comment:
Delightful tones and shades here, the gulls (whom from experience I refer to has "hamburger stealers" -- my wife had a burger stolen right out of her hand by one on Long Island) float, moving gently above the water, sliding easily in and out.

Probably not what you were thinking of, but for some reason this came to mind . . .

"No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?"
Roger Waters, "On the turning away"

She looks like she's walking toward it all, not away from it; and something about the image, the feel of motion, purpose, as she walks from this placed marked with symbols and symbolism, it makes me think she won't join in the turning away . . .

"Will the wind ever remember the names it has blown in the past
And with this crutch its old age and its wisdom
It whispers no this will be the last"

This is one of the few centered composition images without clear symmetry (in fact, it downright flouts symmetry, with heavy weighting on the left and being seriously grounded in the foreground) that I really, really like. The ocean is perfect here, I can feel the breeze, and I so much want to go and join that person for a walk on the boardwalk . . .

Does it really matter what it is? It's well placed in the frame and gives a definite feeling of movement; it does feel like a train tunnel, though I agree the pink doesn't fit into that mold very well.

I (like Jeff) see a ghost here, floating ethereally along, gently touching but never feeling the grass, yearning to feel what its incorporeal existence will not allow it to feel. I really like the placement of the web within the frame, and the flow it gives the image.

It's the textures here that grab me, pulling me from the front to the back, soft and flowing, from more clear and certain to softer and less so. That the progression of light cuts through the center and misses the stone by just a bit adds something special here for me, and for me the stone almost doesn't matter; it's there, but I don't really see it (if you want me to see it more, bring it down a tad and in a tad -- I'm probably looking for rule of thirds here without realizing it; as is, placement deemphasizes the stone in a good way).

Perspective + blur really makes this shot; the stairs bend in my mind's eye. I would love to see less of what's outside the window to the left of her legs, but any crop that loses more of her feet loses something important.

Cool, I'm seeing almost double of the kids, like they've jumped out of their skin from having so much fun.
