I've spent a bit of time looking at these two shots; I really like what you've done with the tones and the shades, and I think the crop is spot on (it helped to have the original to judge that). You do get a feeling that this is a confident young woman; that comes through pretty strongly in the capture. Her eyes are bright, her smile honest (and, I must say, untroubled). You've thought about the technicals of processing, but don't miss what you've captured and what's still come through.

So well composed, such perfect lighting, shadows, tones. After reading the comments, I need to say I like the reflections in his eyes. He's thinking, deeply, remembering a battle or a tale of a battle, a myth playing itself out in his mind, and through that, his eyes, where we get to catch just the teeniest, tiniest glimpse of it . . . wonderful.

I love the dynamism of the clouds that you've captured here, the feeling of movement, but lazy, slow movement. The clouds are nice and toasty warm, delightfully floating, flying, they're in no hurry to go anywhere, they're just going to hang out in the sun. Nice.

Excellent. I love that the grasshopper is not green, that's he's shielded in armor, prepared for any bird that should decide he's its dinner. And he's looking out of the frame, at some good looking grasshopper on that branch that goes out of the frame in lower right. Excellent flow here and a great image.

The Bustard in the Morning

That bird is looking right at you, wondering whether you want him to move out of the way so that you can take a picture of the grass. Then he thought he would stay; it's his home, after all. You can take the picture around him. Wonderful.

Having read the comments (something I only do after I comment), I agree; it's not a centered composition, and I keep following the flow of the grass. Thanks for not cropping that out.

Delightful. Soft flowing lines, almost as wisps of a cloud, and just as ethereal, just as fleeting. Tomorrow they will be gone (if they're not already), but you've captured them for us to enjoy forever. Congrats on your new personal best.

If this were just an image of a bee on some flowers, then there are some "things" that might be "done" to it (cropping, either a bit more extreme contrast or perhaps a bit less, and blah). But it's not that, is it? No. It's an image of a scary flower. A really scary flower. One that has been charged by the sun and is about to devour that poor little bee. And after that? It might just be coming after us. Scary, man.

I am drawn to the sharpness in the wing (his left, right as I look at it). I don't want to be drawn there; I want to see those little antennae, I want to explore the taking of the nectar, I want to see color and light. But I can't, I'm forced by my dull eyes to explore the sharpness in that one area. But as I do, I see more and more, delightful shades and shifts of light, color, lit from behind but never overwhelmed, delicate fitting together of life and beauty. Wonderful capture, delightfully presented.
