What a great pic. If there was only the left or right ice "blocks" (right would be better IMHO) it would be a perfect 10 from me. Still I love the simbolism and technically it is very well done.

This could be a great shot if the lighting was better (flash is too harsh on the eye, and some of the ice is blown), and if it was taken closer... it looks too busy.

I can't help but feel that you just missed a ribbon-winning shot. Please note, your shot is still great, but I feel the composition could be a lot better.
The ice textures in the left are simply stunning, and a closer, macro-type shot of this alone would probably get a 10 from me. The stick with the bit of ice is distracting, as are the differences in the ice textures left/right. I also would have cropped out the top, or perhaps try a b/w conversion.
I don't know the constraints you had to take this, and probably there was nothing you could do to better it. But I can't help the "could have been a ribbon but..." feel.
