Into the lightby NerdJNerdBirdComment: Contrast is a tricky beast.
Too little is a flat photo.
Enough is enough.
Too much is lost detail.
Somehow, one feels that detail was needed in this shot.
Could be a monitor calibration problem methinks... |

Quiting Timeby hudsonComment: Call me old-fashioned, but I like the silhouette, I does, guv'ner! |

At a standstillby acerbisComment: One feels that the aperture could have been closed down more, in order to shrink that pool of white light above the company sign, together with the other naked bulbs which are in view.
Setting the tripod up 10 steps to the left might also have solved the perspective tilt problem.
The square crop is nice.
The colours are rich, and with just a bit more contrast, this photo would make you want to look at it even more.
Good luck! |

Siestaby facesastheycomeComment: I like your dof.
I don't think your model much cares for your sharpening, and as far as portraiture is concerned, her facial fluff really shouldn't be so clearly visible.
With that said, your composition was carefully considered, and I, as a viewer appreciate that.
I do, however, get the feeling that it would benefit either from the addition of some external lighting, (with a coloured gel, perhaps) or a slight change of view, hopefully to bring out some colours in the background which would be more complementary to the model's skin.
A good image "pops" off the page.
Take heart!
You have an eye for photos, and you'll be great. |

No wind by LevTComment: What is that blur above the windmill to the left and forefront of the image?
It spoils what is otherwise a damn fine shot, and very nearly would have walked away with a definite 10 from me. |

The Fishermanby owenComment: Very nice capture!
You've gotten the technical and the abstract issues all working together nicely in order to ensure a great image. I'm convinced. *10*
Do you ever get the idea that as a photographer, we're not much different to fishermen?
I do.
All the time.
Good luck! |

They Will Use Me Again.. Won't they?by xXxscarletxXxComment: I can see where you were going with this shot, and man, I wish you'd gotten there.
Instead I think you've over-sharpened and then over-blurred it. (Not sure how, but anyway...) The grass is hopelessly over-sharpened, and all of the grey in the image is very blurred. Plus, the file was heavily compressed to cause all of those jpeg jaggies. Try to keep your images as close to the 150Kb limit as you possibly can.
Better luck next time... |

D & L in Snow and Iceby tonyvComment: This is WAAAAY after the challenge, and I'm guessing that it's "dark and light".
Whatever the case may be, I like the shot.

Washed Upby amberComment: Looks a bit overly sharpened, but has great composition!
The colours are great, and I like the dark fall-off in the distance.
This is a great example of the fact that you don't need to take a photo of the WHOLE boat (dingy / canoe / Titanic / whatever) to prove to the viewer that they're looking at a boat.
Hope to see you in the top photos!
(The sharpening got you a 9, sadly...) |
