Big Yellow Roseby digifotojoComment: I have seen hundreds of flower photos, and normally I pass them over quite quickly. Your on the other hand demanded a longer look. I love the soft feel, and the high saturation in the centre, and low saturation toward the edges. Excellent photo of a well known subject. |

Flying towards Hopeby BJokerudComment: Greetings from Critique Club... I apologize for the wait.
Actually, I am glad you had to wait... I wasnt a member of CC back when this was voted on, and I am happy I get the chance to critique it. I really like the image... it captures incredible action, and considering what you had to do to get to this location, its sure to be a photo you remember forever. Your shutter speed and DOF are ideal, as this is a difficult shot to get in focus with all of the movement going on.
It is difficult to critique a good photo, but I will do what I can. Some of my criticisms you likely had no control over, so take them for what they are worth. First, the skiiers head is cut by the background. If you were in a position to ensure that the skiier is completed backed by the snow, or completely backed by the sky, you wouldnt have that separation. But, this is a difficult shot as it is, so there is likely no control over that. Second, the snow in the foreground has either a shadow or dirt, or other markings in it. Not sure how legal it would have been to clone them out, but that may improve the shot a bit.
Overall, a great shot. I didnt vote on it, but I would have given this a 7 if I did. Most of the voters did rate this above average, so even though you didnt achieve the 6+ you set out for, I hope your still happy with the image.

Center Stageby benficaComment: Greetings from Critique Club
Creative use of a paper towel roll as spot light. Knowing me, I would have ran out to the photo store, and spent a mint on new equipment.
As for the photo, I really like the composition, and how you got down to your subject, and really close. One thing I might change is the aperture, I think this might be better with more depth of focus.
Your goal was to get 25th or higher. I hope your not dissappointed with 30th, 76th percentile is pretty strong.
Nice to see more Canadians on here too.
Keep shooting and submitting.

Shoesby IWhisperedComment: Greetings from the critique club.
My first reaction when I saw your photo was the reflection, its a great reflection, and I would have loved it if it was more the focus of the image. The shoes themselves are great, and I like the choice of socks.
As you mentioned in your description, the background is a drawback. Not so much that it isnt blurred, but because the cloth itself is wrinkled and folded. An all black background would have been nice as well.
The score overall is pretty decent too. You placed 27th out of 120, or the 78th percentile... not too bad at all.
Keep shooting and submitting.

One Kilometre Underground - Visible Goldby StrikeslipComment: A non-traditional shot, and interesting take on the challenge. At first, I didnt like how dark the hand was, but then considering that you are 1Km underground, it seems much more accurate. |
