| 05/11/2007 10:50:57 AM | "Ouch!" screams the catcher. "P-lease drop the ball," struggled the runner.by harmsusmcComment: good capture.
comp good, lighting good, emotional value excellent, texture excellent, color excellent, movement ok, lines ok, dof excellent, not completely crisp which is a requirement to a good sport image, whites my be blown a bit but not disturbingly, over all an average image. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/11/2007 10:47:35 AM | Running to Thirdby tojlewisComment: I get it. Runners on base and advancing.
I have been thinking about this image for a couple of days now. The thing is, it looks like two guys racing each other in opposite directions.
I am not convinced the runner is advancing to third. Where is second? where is the ball? Hell, if it were not for the helmet on the runner, and the thick pin stripe on the other athlete I wouldn't even think of them as opposing teams.
I am looking at only part of the story, longing for more info.
Comp could be tighter, good capture of motion, light good, excellent emotional value, excellent color, dof could be shallower but not disturbing since bg is static, ok movement, over all could be better. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/11/2007 10:41:23 AM | Dominanceby JasComment: Even though the challenge description said to show your best \"Action\" shot, this is an excellent portraiture.
Comp well done, dof excellent, lighting out standing, blocking of model excellent, emotional value excellent, if that is make up it truly is convincing, nice touch on the sweat, excellent skin tones, excellent texture, even though the blacks seem a bit deep and mixes with the bg it does not disturb me however more separation should be considered, over all a well thought out portrait, but not a good Action. 7

| 05/10/2007 07:18:55 PM | Stole Secondby ryant35Comment: All right, here is the thing.
this is an ok image. I just say ok because you have left out part of the story...the ending.
I know this is baseball. I know he is about to slide. But, slide to what? Second? Third? Home? The dugout? The hot dog stand? His car? What?
Comp could be tighter, too much negative space on bottom and right of frame, great color, good capture but not a crisp capture, excellent emotional value, excellent dof, story telling poor, over all try again | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/10/2007 09:38:01 AM | White Water Surfby tinky2Comment: this is a good image, I just wish you had put a polarizer on your lens to bring out the water droplets more, and take out the glare more.
Great comp, excellent bg, great capture, light good, blacks a bit deep, whites almost blown out, nice movement, emotional value ok, tonal value needs tweaking, overall a very good attempt. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/10/2007 09:32:11 AM | rock climberby andrijaComment: Ya know, this could of been a ribbon winner, but...
comp excellent, light ok, the dof is too shallow for this image. Ususally, in sports, you do want a shallow dof as to focus on the athlete. In this case, I want to see his face. I want the photographer to share this athletes emotions, and this is where you failed. All I am able to care about is his finger tips, and that is only part of the story.
Blacks a bit deep, whites need help, texture ok. Overall, a nice attempt.

| 05/10/2007 09:26:55 AM | Runningby JudiComment: Yes, running can be considered a sport, but during competition.
I am not convinced that this is a competitive situation. I simply looks like three happy kids running down the beach, at sunset.
However, photographically speaking, this is a good image.
Comp great, light good but just barely see detail from the faces, nice reflections, great capture with mid air stride, excellent color, excellent lines, nice movement, excellent dof, emotional value good. Overall a great image, and know DPC you may get a ribbon only because this is a good image, or you may get a lot of DNMC. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/10/2007 09:21:33 AM | #2 Woodby vontomComment: So, I am sure you are going to get comments that are not appreciated.
Yes, this is sports related, but, these are tools of a sport, and not as the challenge description suggests, "show some action".
How ever, photographically speaking, this is a well blocked image.
So here I go...comp great, color great, movement good, blacks a bit deep, whites blown, excellent texture, great dof, over all a fine image, but not a ribbon winner. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/09/2007 10:24:59 PM | Determinationby scarbrdComment: yep, I have seen this face before at this age level.
great comp, great color, great movement, good emotional value, good dof, great light, over all a great image | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 05/09/2007 10:23:36 PM | The Angler by ZeppKashComment: For a sport photograph, this is very artistic.
There is this guideline for sport photography, and basically you have gone against all the rules.
However, photographically speaking, this is a great image. And, sometimes, as I have found, being artistic, ignoring rules can be a good thing.
Comp is good, but I think there is a bit too much negative space above. Silhouette is excellent, light great, texture great, excellent movement, emotional value great, overall I predict top 10. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
