Ears and viskersby dimitriiComment: DOF is not great enough for this pic as the nose is not in focus. He doesn't look terribly happy about having his picture taken either. |

Uniformityby kate12303Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club!

Composition - Definitely meets the challenge. In terms of composition, I have an idea where I think you were going with this and also I can see why you didn't score so well. The first part - Looks to me like you chose the corner to show 2 different facets of the surroundings. One very bright, and one not so bright. The second part - The right side is pretty good. Good sky color but the rest of it is sort of dark. Its a little bit busy in the reflections. Of the 2 sides, I prefer this one. The left side is simpler which I think would've been better if the sky wasn't so blown out.
Photography - If you could've correctly exposed the left side, it would've made the right side so dark it would've looked like night, which could've been very good but it might've been too dark also. The angle this was shot is probably the key to this whole picture. If it were me, I'd have chosen to shoot this from the base of the building looking up or ground level away from the building a little to get one side or the other. Maybe shooting from the corner that this was shot but mostly straight up instead of straight on would've helped. This would've been a good subject for the perspective challenge.
Processing - The crop and colors look pretty good. Not much too add here
Overall - There is a lot of potential for this subject. I think the part about this photo that I did like was the corner and the contrast between the sides. I did not think the angle it was taken or the exposure of the picture were conducive to it doing well on the challenge. Hopefully this will give you a little insight. Good luck on future challenges - Inspzil |

My preciousssby RefractedComment: Critique Club by Inspzil
Composition - I feel very fortunate to be able to do this shot as I really enjoyed it the first time around. Composition - This faceless, nameless inanimate subject comes to life in this very poignant picture. I think the lighting is great the framing is great, the subject is great. The position of the "hands" sells this shot even though the head and body posture are very lifelike. The very tiny square it holds is precious and you've portrayed this very very well. I like that the focus of this challenge is a square, and the focus of the figure is the square as well. In composition alone, this was easily my favorite picture of the challenge.
Photography - I can't believe you took this picture at ISO 400 and its this clear. My cam would've left this quite noisy. If you could have shot this at F8 I think you would've added at least a half point, if not a whole one, to your score as the DOF would've been much greater and more of the pic would've been in focus.
Processing - I might've tried to sharpen this one or two times to see what would happen, but I don't think it would've been enough to make the pic as clear as it needs to be.
Overall - I loved this shot when I first saw it and still do. I wish it was clearer, but hey, they can't all be perfect all the time. You really matched the title to the pic and I get the feeling that this tiny white square is precious to the faceless figure. It is a very very well composed picture and I wish you would've had more time to work on it because I think it could truly be an outstanding picture. Thanks for sharing it with us on DPC and good luck in future challenges - Bob |

yellow tulipsby rjgardnerComment: Its clear, but not crisp. The colors should be much more vibrant. A pic with some potential. I'd have cropped it a little tighter too. It could be good tho. - Inspzil |

NYC sunsetby BeeGeeComment: Great silhouette of Lady Liberty, but all the extra stuff in the pic is not so picturesque. Reminds me too much of work!! Seriously this would be great without the other stuff. Poster material to me. I like the bird too. Great color - Inspzil |

Red Roseby GinaRothfelsComment: Very dark for this colorful subject. Too much stuff and honestly not a very photogenic rose. I don't get the point of all the other stuff. It looks like a box of stuff that had a rose in it. This photo needs some light and some color - Inspzil |

Petal Graceby shedonistComment: I can't deny that this is a cool subject. My approach would've been a little different I think. I think mostly in the framing of the shot. Its too far right and there is too much blur on the left. Some of that is cool, but when half the shot is blurred, its too much. The concept is genuinely cool and I really see where you were going with the shot. I think just backing off of the subject a little would help to keep more of it focused and still keep the same amount of the petal in the frame, just with a bit more room on the right side. This subject has great potential - Inspzil |

Maddy in classic pearlsby LindaLeeComment: Cute but the clarity isn't there. The DOF is too shallow and the focus is on her ears, so the face is out of focus. As a sharp pic, it would do fairly well. I have mixed emotions about dressing dogs up. She doesn't seem to mind so thats good. If she could play poker though, you might really have something..... Inspzil |
