Essenceby seriocomicComment: I start out seeing the background. I think 'no problem, I'll just look at the bit that's in focus.' Then I look some more. 'Aha,' I think, 'the subject blade of grass is in focus.' But it's not. 'Then that tiny little drop in the center of the picture is in focus, surely.' But it's not. Then I start to wish the photographer had just let the drop fall and gotten everything out of focus. |

Sweeping Beautyby TuckersmomComment: I love the strong bokeh of the background, but I find the shallow DOF has rendered all but an area of about 50x50 pixels out of focus. I'd love to see much more of the foreground sharply. |

Temple Gardenby MAKComment: I think this is a very solid photo of a very beautiful space.
If this photo underperforms it will be partly because we teach ourselves at this site to see in pictures of 640 pixels. Photos with lots of detail - ones that offer up strong images of extended and detailed spaces - often tend to be underrated. Some of this is justified by the limits of the medium. But sometimes I think it goes too far. |

Flower Potby DrakeComment: I love the teapot and the butterfly. The lighting is good to the extent it is not overpowering. Is it possible to have blown highlights with saturated colors? I think he answer might be yes, and I think this might offer an example; Certainly it looks like there is a loss of detail in both yellow and violet flowers. I know they are beginning to be used together frequently, but I'm not fond of violet with strong yellows. |

smoothby parrotheadComment: It's a strong image. The bokeh is impactful, but I think a little too much of the subject is out of focus. And I am bothered by the blown highlights, though I imagine they are just about inevitable. |

Candidby srdanzComment: How rarely we get humor in a duck shot, yet this shot has it. How rarely we get to enjoy the blue, green, orange and yellow colors of the duck all arranged in the most flattering array. ( in terms of color palette), yet this shot has it. It's crisp, perfectly lit, great bokeh. Really nice shot. |

Bathroom luxuryby PepetteComment: Call me a curmudgeon, but to me the flower ruins the photo. 1) This particular shade of pinkish mauve clashes with the creamy avocado theme color IMO 2) It's out of focus petals block the shiny metal to which our eyes are naturally drawn. So we resent it's presence doubly. Oherwise I think the photo is a good take on the titled theme. |
