There is a growing trend to place people or (or dogs or cows) in corners of photos of natural places to 'spruce them up a bit' , 'you know, add interest.' While indisputably they can provide a focal point and even a sense of scale they do frequently ruin the shot IMO. If it is to be in this frame, the four legged animal is at a perfect place in the frame. But if the photo is about that being, then we are just a tad too far away. On the other hand if the photo is about that animal's environment, then we are very much too close - the animal should be out of site. Why do I go on about it? I like the sand and the water. I like the sky in its pale tones and even the blown-out clouds. I believe that were the animal removed, there would be more exposure space for the sand and sky and their details could be expressed.

As a rule I recoil at flowers of mums. But this is a refreshing take.

How is it, I've often wondered, that we can be in a field of flowers and find them completely wonderful, but when we capture that on film the glory is gone. One hint lies in the fact that when one captures the field of flowers on 4x5 film and prints it on a high resolution two-page spread some of that glory is recaptured. This photo depicts a sky that, in real life was beautiful, and a field of flowers that, in real life were beautiful. But IMO, the qualities of neither is well expressed in the photo. The sky want more drama. The ground needs more detail. It is nice to see spring, though. Thanks.

I think the photo thus titled lacks a link to the challenge. If this were titled 'Lux' or 'Light' or 'Dawn' then it would definintely fit. So I'll judge it that way.

Very nice cloud. The rest of the photo sort of acts as a frame. Makes me wonder whether a slightly different angle would have gotten the twigs out of the top of the cloud without compromising their framing value.

Nice model, nice expression. That darn windo has caused no end of grief in this photo, though.

As soon as you've finished there, you will want to go to your computer and download Neat Image. //www.neatimage.com. And get some photographic lights. And a digital camera. Really, the amount of banding in this photo makes me wonder whether it was scanned from a badly done digital print. Most of the photo is out of focus, a remarkable feat considering that the required depth of field be not four inches, and this is not a Macro shot.
