The 'guard petal' on Bishop Darlington and roses of that ilk have always bothered me for the difficulties they present photographically; this is a nice treatment. The back-lighting works especially well. Mostly, I like the soft look of the photo, but I wonder whether a little sharpening would have improved the look of the stamens.

Nice choice of subject; and I like the drops of moisture.

It seems that great pains were taken to produce a static, centered photo: the equal margins, the vertical stem, the horizon bisecting the photo. Somehow it seems a little too static or contrived.

Strawberry Fields

The only fruit with the seeds on the outside... It's interesting. And I like red. Yet doesn't strike me as being something special.

One of the things I think about a lot in photographing cluster-flowered roses is 'how do I frame this so I'm not starting a new story' at the edge of the frame. In photos like this, I am inclined to feel comfortable when a small part of an object of interest is cut off - as is true for the seed at the top; but to feel uncomfortable about those cut in half or those whose majority is missing. It occurs to me that the seed in the upper left is the 'star.' It is most favored by the lighting and by its coloration, size, and features. If this were just a little closer to the "rule of thirds" line I think the photo might be stronger. All of these considerations could be accomodated by judicious cropping.

The lighting is soft and gorgous - perfectly suited to the subject. Depth of field is perfect and so is framing. Very Nice.

Talk about Bug-Eyed! It's technically as good as I can imagine it might be. It's crisp, sharp and even the placement/framing of the flying insect is good. Somehow it strikes me as empty and uncompelling... not sure why.

I fear the depth of field was just a little too shallow: it looks like there is only one point in the photo that is in focus. The stick in the middle is quite an annoyance - I think the photo could be improved much by cropping off the bottom third or half.
