Looking back at my comment (below) I realise how crass and insensitive it was. To suggest an image of an old veteran holding his medals makes an assumption that the brave soldier pictured was one of the lucky ones who did make it back. Apologies if I upset you back when I made my original comment.

Initial thoughts
Lovely quality of light.

Composition/ Content
I like the content of this image –a butterfly resting during it’s journey.
The colour of the live green and dead brown grasses contrast nicely with the vivid orange, black and white of the butterfly.
In terms of composition I would be tempted to crop in more closely – I’d keep the two blades to the left of the butterfly that go from top to bottom of the frame at different angles – I’d crop the left to exactly the point at which the green blade hits the top of the image. From the right I’d crop in until I had an almost square image. This is, of course, only my highly subjective opinion! :)

Background
Nicely thrown out of focus – nothing to compete with main subjects.

Camera Work - Technical
Nice lighting and exposure.

Post Processing - Technical
I like the border you̢۪ve selected. Processing of image seems fine.

Fits The Challenge
Yes, though not as obviously as it could do. If the image was viewed alone (even including title) I don̢۪t know that it would suggest Travel to me.

Your Opinion On The Photo
I like it, I think composition could be improved to make it more striking.

On first glance at this one I mentally scored it a little lower - it wasn't until I looked again and saw the lady in the red coat that it really clicked for me as a stronger image. I like the water flow (slow shutter speed thing) as the whites it gives in the water complement the white of the snow. This is almost monotone and the red of the woman pulls it back into colour. I like that contrast. I think the position of the woman isn\'t ideal - she vies for attention with the tree trunk. 7, Kavey

Such a simple subject and yet such a strong photo. This gets a 10 from me because of it's incredible detail and vibrancy. I want to reach out and touch it. I almost think I can smell it! The black background is very effective and I like the subtle use of DOF - only the stem in the lower corner is out of focus - spot on! Colour and lighting are excellent. This is the kind of image I can imagine people dismissing as cliched, or lacking in imagination, but I think it's so excellently executed that it has very strong appeal regardless!

He's cute! I really like the expression you've captured and the composition is strong. Lighting is a little too strong for my preferences.

This is lovely. Looking at the body parts I think I do prefer the skin tones when in colour. It does work in BW though...

Really interesting composition, though lighting a little uneven - too much white on the front of the calf. Seems a little blurred in the hand and foot. Great clean blackground. Do you do yoga? :) On second thoughts, does the leg belong the same person as the shoulder/ arm?

Initial thoughts
Light trails well captured but little else of interest in the frame.

Composition/ Content
This is quite weak for me. Although I do like the way the light trails converge at a point – it doesn’t lead me to anything so there’s a sense of the eye being lead into the shot and then thinking, now what? I

appreciate you wanted to keep the moon in the shot but for me this means that there is just too much blackness overall. I am also distracted by that building at the right hand side.

In terms of composition my favourite crop of this shot is as a square, losing some from the right and the left and the top so that the point of light at the top of the light trails is dead centre.

Background
The black of night is lovely and dark but a little bland – especially when the building on the right is more obvious than that moon up above.

Camera Work - Technical
Looks fine to me!

Digital Processing - Technical
Some of the light trails seem a little jaggy but maybe that’s my screenâ€Â¦

Fits The Challenge
Yes.

Your Opinion On The Photo
Interesting idea but isn̢۪t as strong as it could be.
