I love peas! by DjabordjaborComment: Sweet! The eye contact/ expression is great. The lighting is perfect for his/ her skin but it creates too shiny an effect on the pods and the shadows within the pods are a little too harsh for my preferences too. That said, overall it's a fun and charming picture.
EDIT: Having now seen the unedited version, I would say that lighting was not too harsh but that the processing introduced too high a contrast within the peas for my tastes. Message edited by author 2006-08-24 09:48:35. |

Every day above ground is a good day.by whiteroomComment: Selective desaturation is a technique that I think is hugely overused so it's refreshing to see an example where it's used not for the sake of it but because it truly adds something to the image. I love the black and white for the man himself - it really brings out the wonderful texture of his skin and the expression on his face. The bright green for the pea pod helps it to stand out against his skin and ensures we can really see what it is. Even though it's the only thing in colour the focal point is still on the model's eyes which I think is testament to how strong the portrait of him is. |

Coasting Freeby TransitComment: Colours far too vivid to convey much sense of serenity to me, personally though I'm sure others will feel differently. The image itself, ignoring the highly saturated nature of it is interesting though the way the boat shadow is clipping the edge of the frame and the slightly tilted horizon both contribute to the off-kilter feeling it gives me. |
