But of course it is the presence & placement of that chain (especially in relation to the eye) that lifts this image from the merely good to the excellent. Outstanding depiction of a child's tentative discovery of independence. The ankle deep exploration, the slightly giddy pose, and the thoughtful composition (shallows below the diagonal & the deep above), make this an effective metaphoric as well as literal depiction of independence. 9

Charming portrait; I like the loving smiles, but it's the shoes, the bag and the umbrella that really make this image. First glance ... a good, candid family portrait. But look a few moments longer & you appreciate that this is a very clever, subtle work of high quality. I hope the voters give you the few extra seconds consideration that you deserve! 9
