Very bold. Successful, too ... enough intrigue to be mentally engaging, and photographically accomplished enough to be worth admiring. That's two reasons to like it. I don't know what it means yet. That's another reason. 8.

I kept bumping this up a bit, then down a bit, then up again, until I felt like I was taunting it. In the end, up. It is deceptively quiet and unassuming, but there is something poignant about the bicycle and the empty bench. Obviously the title provides a solution, but I do think the image succeeds in suggesting a satisfying general direction of meaning anyway. Both the camera and the post-processing work are subtle and understated, which just makes me admire it even more. I think it's an image that will last. Not immortal, perhaps, but certainly enduring. 9.

For Sale

For Sale
by Beagleboy

Comment:
This is terrific because of the contrast between the two elements of the scene; the soft, organic forms of the farmland, versus the hard, surgical lines of the car. And the For Sale sign adds a potential story for the restless mind to grapple with. Lovely B&W processing, too - the representation of different parts of the tonal range seems to be deliberately and appropriately uneven (I mean you seem to have used something a bit more sophisticated than boosted contrast across the board to achieve the dramatic effect that you have). 8.

Good subject, but also well treated in this bold composition. It's the great, burning height of the wall that is the essence of this scene, and establishes the context for the tiny person to be cowering in shelter. I also like the inclusion of the patches of peeling paint at upper right - so glad you were confident enough to leave them there! 8.

I like the not-quite-symmetry of this landscape, and the beautiful tonal progression from front to back. The exposure & processing is great - there's just enough visible to make it more than a silhouette, but not enough to dilute the essence of the scene with irrelevant details. It's perfectly composed, too. 8.

Comment:
This has some great jagged edges (metaphorically as well as literally), that makes it so convincing for the concept expressed in the title. Would it be as powerful without the title? I'm not sure, but I think so. Therefore: 8.

Comment:
An understated landscape, but with the added charm of including a miniature landscape-within-a-landscape in the foreground rock and pools; a clever subtlety that has only recently been brought to my attention as a landscape technique. For that and several other reasons, this is a very satisfying and "complete" work. 8.

Opportunity for him, but inspiration for you. Well done. A very fine documentary photograph, and they never go out of fashion. 8.

My number one choice of my four 10's in the challenge,
It has tension and beauty together. Several bold, unorthodox ideas are combined with just enough convention to reassure any viewer who begins to feel too disoriented. Such an original and subtly erotic tribute to the subject ... but that's not all! All this is done without the inclusion of a single photographic cliche. A beautiful work. 10.5
