While visiting Todai-ji in Nara, Japan, the friend I was traveling with and I unexpectedly came a across a religious ceremony that was just about start. A number of men in colorful robes were just beginning to line up for a procession into Todia-ji, a temple and the largest wooden structure in the world.

The deer around Nara are very tame and locals and tourists can buy crackers to feed them. I was taking pictures of the line up of men when I noticed this man opening a pocket in his sleeve and pull out a small digital camera to take a picture of the deer standing next to him.

Talk about singled out! And "splash of color"? Good candid capture, any real wildlife photog would be shooting from his knees, the preview on the LCD just finishes the appeal for me, terrific.

I really like the spontainaity of this shot. The great thing is you haven't sacrificed image quality to capture it. I love how the monk(?)is just casually taking his photo as if this is something that happens every day.

Oh, please! That deer is clearly fake. And how much did you have to pay those monks to pose like that for you?!?

Haha, very funny moment and the best part is that it looks like a digital, modern camera. I gave this a whopping 9, mostly because of the moment but the composition and exposure are pretty nice.

I don't know which is cuter...that the deer is so calm with all the people or that the monk (?) has a camera with him to take pictures!

Love this! Photo opportunity indeed. A colorful line of men dressed in purple and red robes adds vibrant color to the shot that attracts our attention. But what really makes this an interesting shot is that one man pauses from the spiritualistic seeking crowd to take a picture of the curious wildlife that has strolled on scene. The deer is an unexpected and unusual visitor. The concentration on the man/monk's face as he composes the shot on his point and shoot camera is great! The photographers eye captures the deer while the photographers eye captures the unusual photographer capturing his subject on 'film'. Great eye!
