| 04/19/2006 12:41:18 AM | At the Butcher's by e301Comment: I don't even remember taking this shot - don't remember the moment, the situation. Look at him - his too large coat (the bulge around his right shoulder), the too short trousers, his thick spectacles, his slightly chubby frame, the way the butcher has privileged his status compared to him by remaining on the step and forcing him to look up, the defensive way he holds his shopping bag in front of him, the awkwardness of his reaching for his pocket, his hair disorganised underneath his oh so ordinary flat cap, his blocky uncomforatble shoes, his slightly bandy-legged stance - a picture of 'english' humility and self-effacement. And then the butcher, his angry frown, his wearing of the 'uniform', his confidence, that vicious short back-and-sides haircut, the stragnth and power of his head - here really is a man used to the weilding of the cleaver. No contest, really?
Ha! Your self-analysis is just like I'd write. Saved me the trouble. Nice work on both counts. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/18/2006 08:21:02 PM | Papa Rock II.jpgby pawdrixComment: I love this guy. So much attention to detail; the hair, bandana, leather, studs, one cool glove, stubble, shades, smoke ... it's all there! He makes me think of a '57 Chevy street rod; pathetically obsolete, hard to get spare parts, but still turning heads with those authentic period details. I suppose he's a lifelong NYC guy, and that NYC is his entire world? I wonder how he'd deal with being suddenly transported to where I live, which looks like this:
Anyway, it's a great street portrait, Steve. All the usual crap is good: lighting, composition, processing.
But the best thing is what you're best at ... you were right there, you got the shot, and you allowed your subject to participate in it just enough to create effective communication between you, him, and me. Message edited by author 2006-04-18 20:32:29. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/18/2006 05:08:36 PM | two dinghies IMG_3395.jpgby Bear_MusicComment: Well, you would have known that I'd like it. A whole lot. Not too dark for me (very little is) ... I can see the internal detail of the dinghies fine. The taut painter suggests tethered balloons, but that's probably just the influence of my Monty Python side. Beautiful raking light. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/11/2006 08:57:02 PM | Cobalt Blue Poolsby srbrubakerComment: They're beautiful. Continents and islands, ready for assembly. Glass. Mercury, or at least molten metal. Lovely light, shape and texture. It's an absorbing look at what a thing can be in addition to what it actually is. That's something to do with art, isn't it? | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 04/10/2006 07:39:21 AM | Waterlinesby puzzledComment: Wow! What have you been smokin? Another beautiful water image; great composition, wonderful teasing abstract overtones, terrific everything. I didn't vote, or even look, but this is without question the best I've seen in the first 5 pages of results. Virtual Blue Ribbon, cobber. Congratulations, Amy!
Edit to add: Such a clever title, too ... couldn't let that go unremarked. Message edited by author 2006-04-10 17:13:56. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

It's a very nice, sympathetic photograph, too. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 04/05/2006 06:30:27 AM | In Vitroby xtineComment: Such a complete image, Christine. I've said this before of your work, but once again you have produced a photograph that really rewards a second, third and fourth look. You've done it to me several times now, so it cannot be an accident. In the hope that one or two others who stumble across this comment might appreciate the work of an original and cerebral photographer who eschews "pretty" dross and instead asks the viewer to make an effort, here's a few links to follow:

It's very beautiful, man. Like the light is inside the peacock. Very theatrical. You have a fine sense of drama, Tej. Cheers. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
