It's remarkable that you managed this without either one of these people having looked at the camera with some mixture of suspicion or confusion. I'd say you have here the very last moment before one of them did so. It's an image about the tiny margin between one moment and the next. 8.

A lovely simple-complex photograph. I imagine this to inhabit that sacred ground between a candid and a posed portrait ... I'm sure the photographer does not know the man, and yet it's not a stolen moment like most 'street' photographs. Instead it's a shared moment; the man sees the photographer, there is an instant of unspoken communication, and then an instant of shared salute, each to the other. Exactly the thing that makes photography a matter of connection ... between photographer and subject, between photographer and viewer, and (most magically of all) between subject and viewer. The man knows he's going to be looked at by people he will never know, and he salutes them, even more than he salutes the person with the camera. So it's a one-of-a-kind moment, never to be repeated. 9.

This is terrific! Like a dozen or so little movies all running at once. Like an electronics retail store with every television set tuned to a different channel. It's not just a striking idea ... it's also a very clever one, as it makes a point about how everyone in this obviously busy city is also in his own little world. Together and separate. Nice. 8.

This is the most interesting wildlife photograph I've seen for ages. All those joints and angles, and the camouflage merging with the background. Very fine, unusual image. 8.

Very good. All those tiles and all that dictatorial geometry. A sign to tell you what's forbidden (but not what's not), mounted over a thing (rubbish bin?) that makes me think instead of a urinal ... and maybe it is? ... there's no sign forbidding that. Rat race indeed. 8.

Nice. Very nice. The ascending spirit of the man on the bench is clever, but it's the background details (or lack of details) that I like best. An embrace? A hasty shopper? The wonderful photographer in the window, snapping the lovers. And the ascending man is apart from it all. Above it all. 8.

Well, I just like this for its nonconformity. The photograph is deliberately unfinished; nothing is certain. And that lets the viewer into it to wander around and investigate. The guys are wearing work clothes. They're not young guys. They're discussing something. No rush, though ... it's something that requires some measured consideration. As much looking as talking. Are they nurserymen, perhaps? The dog has an injured leg, and so must wear the embarrassing Elizabethan collar. But he doesn't neglect his duties, watching his master's flanks. It's a charming, mature photograph and makes some demands of the viewer. That's the best kind. 9.

This is fun. I forgive you for the border, especially as you've allowed the tartan umbrella to breach it. 7.

It's an interesting image with a touch of Nighthawks about it, although I do think the illuminated window sign on the right drains it of some of its atmosphere. 7.
