Planet Griefby jmritzComment: This is a terrible photograph in every way ... except for the ones that really matter. Thank you John. |

Apple store Sydneyby daisydavidComment: Apple as religious icon. It's about right, too. Their glass cathedral stores seem like a joke at the expense of their own followers. Of which I am one, Amen. |

Creationby jmritzComment: This was the most audacious of the Fine Art entries. Two juries did some justice to its reach; well done.
The title 'Creation' was a master stroke; so much more telling than the more obvious 'Just for You'.
The point of the whole work is gently echoed, and amplified, by the tiny graphic slyly included at the bottom right corner. A rushing man is admonished to put the wrapper in a trash can (but don't stop rushing to do so). The fact that this cynical appeasement appears on the wrapper only as a sort of graphic 'fine print' of the type not intended to be read nor even noticed by the consumer is a delicious further irony (as is my use of the word 'delicious' in this context).
The work is also signed there, where artists generally sign their work: 'USA'
And we voters have completed the artist's work, a picture that surely must either succeed or fail (there can't be a middle ground reception for this one, can there?) by awarding it 52 votes of '5', demonstrating that no matter what you say, most people will be too lazy or too busy (see the rushing trash-can-man) to listen. The ultimate level of irony of 'Creation'. |

wake up to...by bvyComment: I found John's incisive but perhaps nutritionally limited, whereas yours is a touch more aesthetically blunt but has the advantage of representing all the recommended breakfast food groups save for beer. Thank you. |

Well Az, you're (a) the only person in Serendib who could (b) possibly have done this, surely? |

Hommage à Jack Oxby 4trtoneComment: Well I admit I knew nothing of Jack Ox until your beautiful photograph prompted me to find out. What a fascinating person and artist she is! The very concept of visualizing music, in the way that she pursues it, is itself quite beautiful too. Your tribute would most likely please her very much. It certainly pleases me; the longer I look at it the more clearly I can hear it.
I can't separate two toweringly wonderful pictures in this challenge (nor do I need to, nor want to), and yours is one of the two. I rarely make anything a favorite, but this is so lovely and so conceptually perfect that I have no choice! 10. Thank you. |
