This is truly a "WOW" shot and I hope it wins something. Meets the challenge spot on. Composition is excellent - subject has visual interest and it's pretty perfect technically. (10)

Low Tech Water Pump

Low Tech Water Pump

Comment:
Good subject. As is, the house competes with the pump for focal point attention. Composition could have been improved by using a shorter depth of field - having the pump in sharper focus than the house in the background. Alternately, a tighter crop on the pump would have also worked. Overall, a decent shot.

Good composition and subject matter. There is a distracting line at the back of the little boy's neck that appears created by post-processing. Otherwise, good use of selective saturation to bring attention to focal point.

Comment:
Composition could be stronger to draw attention to the stone wall as a focal point. This was an original idea.

That darn wind

Comment:
Overall, this is a decent shot but I'm not sure it demonstrates wind as effectively as it could. The one candle that is not lit isn't showing smouldering, and the flames on the others are not bent in a direction to suggest wind is blowing. I do like the composition.

Comment:
This shot doesn't demonstrate "low-tech" without the title and knowledge of the challenge parameters. Overall, it is a good image but I'm marking it lower than I would like because I can't tell if the candlelight or the book is your focal point.

Comment:
This is a strong shot. Your focal point is getting lost though - is it the tractor or the fireplace? I'm assuming the tractor, since the chimney is not in use. Black and white was a good artistic choice.
