Dark toneby JAGQComment: This is a beautiful capture of a violin, one of my favorite instruments.
A violin is both a thing of beauty to behold and to listen to.
I'm not sure about the low-key. I wonder if perhaps you might have been thinking of a dual meaning for low-key, but in that case, a violincello or bass would be better. Perhaps even a Viola, but would I really be able to tell a Violin from a Viola after all of these years? Might fly over the heads of all but the most musically inclined viewers. |

An unhappy man has yet to see the beauty of nature.by savewordsComment: Very nice profile. It might have been nice to see the clouds drop into real darkness, which would have made it more low-key and would have rendered that annoying power line invisible.
It's a really great picture.
Oh yeah, and don't forget that the largest side can be 640 pixels, yours is 514x350. |

Doryby outlandComment: I don't know why, but this looks like a really well-done hand-made model.
Is that sawdust on the seat?
Beautiful craftsmanship btw. My dad tried to build a 3 masted schooner when he was younger out of mahoganny he scooped from crate pallettes (which 35 years ago were often made of better wood than the pine we see today). He only ever got about 1/3 of the way finished, but it's really marvelous to see true craftsmanship. |

The Science of Bloodletting circa 1900by 2mccsComment: Fun image! Tell me you don't actually keep leeches about the place...
ZIPES!
What's in the next image? Maggots with which to clean gangrenous wounds?

The Skipperby BradComment: This is a pretty funky little picture. What a great face and moustache!
Light's a tiny bit harsh on the left. I don't care.
I like that you made a small attempt to include a little bit of dimension on the dark side of the face. That's personal taste, and honestly, I would have liked the tiniest bit more (maybe 5-20 bit depth at the most) |

Deep into Murder Branch Caveby woodseyComment: Not exactly low key, but I will say that this would be much better with that flash glare on the left cropped out. I'm happy with the square crop on some of my pictures. This might be slightly improved that way. |

Predatorby gotrondComment: A little bit heavy on the darkness here. It looks interesting, but I can't actually see anything. It looks to me like the window of a small boat in the dark with a person's face inside a gently lit cabin. The person's face looks fearful.
I have absolutely no idea if this is correct or not though because there is not enough detail.
If you had cropped in to a square crop or perhaps slightly more landscapish, maybe there would be a bit more detail visible in the face.
There also appears to be some other things in the shadow, but I can't make any of it out, it almost looks like a bat wing or something?
I have my monitor calibrated and at max brightness.
Sorry. (not a 1) |

Bye, bye my friend...by timluComment: Very nice technically and one of the few shots that's actually touching in this challenge. I was moved just by the thumbnail. |

Footprints Left by an Angelby jayjay06Comment: Hey. Condolences. I've got a cousin who went through this with his first child. She lived 5 days.
They were pretty happy for the first 2 years of marriage before this, but it was a bit of a downhill slide for them after that.
I just found out that they split up in the last few months.
Having one that survived will be your source of strength. Work hard to keep happy. |
