Stairs and Columnsby elemessComment: Lol...one of the few that I would say a border may actually increase impact. Very nice shot, technology link could be missed by some, but I see it. |

Just Plug me inby lytaComment: one of the few electric devices in this challenge that is so NOT electronic. But the cloth in that plug seems like it is a fire hazard. Nice detail in this. Great choice of a textured wall for background as it adds to the whole as does the angled jointing. Good lighting too. Nice high marks. |

Low Tech Flyerby scottaubComment: The angle, dof, implied motion, shading and coloration all seem to work so well for this shot. I can't fold a plane anywhere near as perfectly as you made this one, so an extra point just for that. Good crop, just enough sharpness, even the shape and placement of the tree behind adds to the composition. There is no obstacle to seeing the link to technology and this is very low tech. Only thing I can see and it is pickiness is that the tree's blurring has that hypnotic zig-zag effect on my eyes, perhaps a bit more or less or a darkening of the background to lessen my dizziness. ;-) |

Pencil and Paperby jimikaComment: Do I consider pencil and paper low tech? (Yup, typing on a PC right now.) DOF seems a bit too short in this one although it has achieved the goal of drawing my eye to the lead of the pencil and this is a plus. Color cast seems less black on the pencil, than dark grey even a hint of green in the paper and pencil color. - (Could be the work monitor) Very simple artistic presentation of the challenge; high marks. |

Dancing whiskby GinaRothfelsComment: I like the blur, the pattern of the bowl, color choices. Eggs look a little too brown, like they may have been burned (PS not stove) a bit too much or simply did not catch enough light. The framing and crop create a nice natural flow. Although cooking utensils don't immediately call to mind technology, I can easily see the comparison to hand mixers and food processors, so the link is there. Nice pic. |

Braidby vtruanComment: Hard for me to see technology in this image, even low tech. I'm sure hair restraint must have come a long way over the years, but that seems irrelevant. There is a great amount of detail in the hair, but the overexposure of the lower left corner and last full braid thread really hurt the image. The wayward strands are 'messy'. It would seem even a perfect shot of a braid would need a lot of setup work to ensure that the polish on the final product was not taken away by random hair. |

1.5 kg of applesby siggiComment: Choice of background, platform and angle are all very nice. Use of natural lighting adds to the ambiance of a 'general store' feel. All of the hues coordinate with each other. Slight flash reflection in the bottom of the scale but so minor as to almost not notice. Us Amricans would see kilograms as metric and new fangled although it has been around for a long time and in use everywhere else forever. The scale is definitely low tech compared to the new digital, bar code printing scales. Nice shot |

Grandma's Pagerby novaComment: I don't find myself challenged at all to see a link to the technology. We carry cels and pagers around everyday, even land phones for communication. This is an excellent example of low tech communication. The subjects are well framed and balance each other in height because of a good selection of shooting angle. The disrepair of the home adds an element to the age of the bell, but the bell itself seems a bit over de-noised. Like it has weathered time much more successfully than the home. This seems a bit out of place. Nice shot overall, not a glamour shot, but definitely fitting the challenge and well executed. |
