there's a fine line between at high key image that works and one that looks washed out - you are right on that line - 7

I like the toes but what's on the left - I'd be interested in the out takes. The ball dominates too much and drowns the subtle whatever-it-is- that's happening in the back.

yikes it's hat snake again - much as I hate him this is a spectacular set up and almost a perfect picture. Something about the uneven background makes me give it a nine.

Hello from the Critique CLub-

I have a couple of unfinished crituques from the distant past. It is intimidating to review such a great photo. I was surprised, just noe, to find that this wasn't a ribbon winner. I thought I remembered it in second or third place. Well it should have won and I gave it a ten.

One of the things I like best about this photograph, and several of your others, is the use of color. Orange is a odd color in the US and arely used. People do not dress in orange, they don't paint their houses orange. So to me the orange always stands out. Likewise yellow as in your "boyfriends" image. Yellow is for flowers, not for much else.

This fellow is great- he looks right into the camera and into my eyes with his little grin. What's he so happy about? What is he thinking? He leans towards me, increasing the sense of personal contact. He carries all sorts of things that I can't identify that make me curious about what he might be going to do.

Even though the composition here is fairly simple witht he center of interst in the center of the photo. the lines are intriguing, The composition is a triangle with the head at the top and the stuff in his hands at the base, The stripes of his clothing emphasize the diagonal of the triangle. The shape of his turban also mimica the larger triangle. the loop on his forehead and the point of his nose also point into the center of the photo. So all your leading lines draw into the image and none lead all the way out of the frame. This makes me, the viewer wander around and around exploring parts of the scene.

Your camera work is, of course, just perfect. Focus, lighting, contrast, all are wonderful.

It has been so long you've probably forgotten about this photo but I'll bet a lot of us will remember it forever. It is really an unforgettable shot and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Too much stuff!!! Actually I like the foreground things, the item and it's other half. How about forgetting the salad bowl part and working with those shapes? I love the colors here and the cloth is a nice compliment in color annt testure. the wood is wonderful. Simplify it.

Wait a minute! I thought I was holding this one hostage. Now I'm clearing out my hostage pile and someone beat me to it.

Let me add that I think using "innocents" adds to the impact of the old adage here. Traditionally I think it's monkeys, implying what? stupidity? Polital cartoonists love this one too, again implying, think, stupidity. But the little ones give it a fresh and uncorrupted message. I especially like Issac's baby teeth in the middle image. By covering his face it emphasizes those tiny teeth and demonstates his youth.

The lines in the background, though subtle. are great. they function as leading lines, linking the three photos and leading the viewer back from one to the other. I think it makes the viewer linger a bit longer on the picture and give it the attention it deserves.

I also like that the frame of the tryptich is set up to look like the frames of a 35mm strip of film. Clever. Black frame border, black background, black sweatshirts, they all help to simplify the image and keep the focus on the charming little boy expressions (which are very well lit, by the way). they look like they were just about to explode in laughter, and that gives the picture some tension and dynamic direction. Like a freeze frame in time.

Overall: Just delightful!!!!
