Jazz Legend Cecil Taylor by pawdrixComment: Gotta give Nikon it's due... this is perfection. I esp.like the creases in his brow, that expression and his eyes make the shot for me. |

Bench Endsby neophyteComment: Hey that's cheating! They do dress up that drab bench quite nicely, though :) |

USMC.jpgby dssagent88Comment: This is so effective at communicating the intended point. Sorry about your DQ but since you asked for comments I'll tell you how it strikes me. For starters, as I said, I think it has great impact. I probably would have scored it a 7. While I like the blending of two images in the subject Marine, I don't care for it as much in the background. In my opinion having the American flag on the "dress blues" side and the raising on the flag on the other gives me just too much to look at, 4 images instead of two. Also the colors in the complete image have a bit of a washed-out look to my eye. I hope that you will find these thoughts helpful, and thanks to you and your friends for your heroism, sacrifice and service. Best, Ray |

Treacherous Alleywayby glad2badadComment: I wondered if this one were yours when I viewed it! To be honest though, there were several- 4 or 5 maybe- that I thought might be.
I was one of your 81 fives. Issues were primarily composition, as well as some softness.
As for your composition, while I do think that this does a pretty good job of communicating the circumstances (ie it "tells a story" as so many like to say), I think that it suffers primarily from being too far away (a tighter crop would elimnate so much of the brick wall at the subjects' left and also the alleyway beyond the intersection), and also from your pov: no faces, only their backs. I noticed so many shots from behind, and I totally understand why, but I think the best STREET PHOTOGRAPHY shots included faces.
