Cecil's playing never really appealed to me; I appreciate him in the sense that he broke down a lot of barriers and paved the way for the "avant garde" (a slippery phrase in jazz if there is one). He owes his style to no one, so God bless him for that. He's a legend and a genius, and this great portrait shows us some of that. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Gotta give Nikon it's due... this is perfection. I esp.like the creases in his brow, that expression and his eyes make the shot for me. |

An excellent shot of this avant garde jazz pianist. Love the fact that we can see his eyes through the shades - what an inquisitive and almost conversational expression. |
