Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that contributes well to the open challenge.

'Trouble brewing' would have been a good alternative title! The sense of tension fills this macabre scene, the calm moment before the maelstrom of violence erupts, you've captured it all well Susan. Such a scene has to be mono and low key. The prominent shapes of the cups and pot work well against the light. The key areas of light on the dagger and his face are well lit to emphasise the detail. I might have tried to reduce the amount of light from the window by draping a dark cloth over the table so that we only have light from the table top up, its a minor point but I think it would add to an already very effective scene. Nice to see you both getting on so well!

Another excellent wildlife image Ronnie, well done. Superbly sharp where it matters and a great composition with all the soft focus vegetation framing him in a way that enhances the end result. Two things I really like about it are the way he is slithering in from the corner with his lovely soft focus body and the leaves parasol. It is all so believable natural as opposed to a zoo or studio shot. I know what you mean about a tongue shot but this is still an excellent shot that works really well. Thank you for your patient efforts that serve to reward us all, we are indebted to you.

These high contrast scenes with the dark stormy skies are always a winer, I can understand why this is your favourite photo location it exudes character. The buildings are of predominantly muted colours but there are significant areas of bolder colour that lift the end result in a positive way. The only idea I can make by way of a suggestion is that the vertical poles of on sort or another break up the scene a little and I'm just imagining a more fluid scene without them, perhaps you could try clone a few or all of them out to see what it looks like?

It's already been said! What an excellent study, that all powerful eye really transforms 'just another bird portrait' into another league, it dominates the image in exactly the way it should to create a menacing atmosphere of stalking. The light is excellent especially against that darker background. The detail in the feathers is awesome. It could be argued that the beak could benefit from a little more light to but this way its lethal potential is implied in a much more subtle way. I like it all just the way it is well done Eugene and congratulations on your high score and placing.

Yes, I agree with Neat, it has the Janine hallmark of quality. It exudes a lovely positive aura that shouts 'look at me nature, aren't I beautiful', and thats exactly what the child is doing he's taking in his wonderful natural surroundings in awe. The feeling of space, the child's pose his lovely reflection they are all adding up to an inspiring piece of work, though on closer inspection I do detect a slight tilt of the horizon. Apart from that one minor flaw a lovely image Janine, well done.

This is a pleasing scene and composition with subtle lighting on the bridge to give it a somewhat ghostly effect. I doubt whether the meteors would have registered with such a long shutter speed, although they can be quite bright they are so brief their light if it did register would be very insignificant. Tanguera's constructive comments are relevant but I actually think a softer focus adds to the atmosphere of the shot. I don't believe every shot always has to be pin sharp there is definitely a place for soft focus and OOF. All in all a pleasing result Craig, thanks for sharing

A very clean sharp shot with lovely colours and angles, I like the diagonal you have used it adds a dynamic to the image. Unlike MOC I think the wording of the challenge is such that it allows exactly this sort of shot, inclusion of the ground itself is not necessary. As ever with your photography Janine there is a technical excellence that is very evident throughout the image, thanks for your entry.

If this is your first fisheye, I look forward to many more from you! I do love the creativity of these lenses and here you've taken full advantage of that creativity, it works very well. The exposure is spot on, although there are inevitably blown highlights they contribute well to the end result. The composition takes full advantage of the inevitable distortions that if used intelligently, as you have, can really add impact to image. Your high score and placing are just reward for an excellent shot, well done Fabio

I like your viewpoint but I'm not so keen on the infrared but it certainly distinguishes the shot from the normal exposure. A mono presentation would have been my preference, I do like the trees structure together with the leafy branches. Although its a long exposure I feel its let down by the softness throughout, I would expect to see more sharpness in the trunks at least.

I like your composition against the interesting sky it enhances the sculpture well. The sculpture could easily serve asa homage to Sisyphus. Unfortunately, everything is somewhat underexposed and rather dark, with a stop more exposure you could have given the shot more impact and appeal. You could try altering the exposure in PS and see if you still prefer this shot in which case fine. Thanks for your entry
