Window Cleaning High-Rise Buildingsby clickodakComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
Your high vantage point has enabled you to add interest by illustrating how precarious a simple task like cleaning windows can be when faced with a high-rise block. In choosing to do so you have made the building dominate the image and whilst the left wall is interesting this face is rather dull and has the effect of reducing the overall impact. Given that the left of the image is much more dynamic a more effective option would have been to compose the image with the end wall on the right and the cityscape in the rest of the frame still fulfilling the challenge brief. Thanks for your entry Marcel |

Dear Papa's Cabinby snafflesComment: Hello from the critique club
An excellent entry that fully meets the challenge.
Very spookily done Susan and congratulations on your high score and HM, well done. You̢۪ve done a great job of the post-processing to create a very convincing and very spooky poster that would look great outside any cinema, bound to attract the public̢۪s attention and curiosity. I love the red font and shadows, the face at the window, the windows themselves the dominant colours its all working together very well. It̢۪s all already been said buy your commenters who rightly appreciate a good job well done. |

When the Rain Starts to Fallby Ja-9Comment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
Most appropriate to choose one of the most famous landmarks in the world! This unusual composition is a refreshing change from the normal compositions we often see, it feels much more dynamic with the people and the bird. Its a shame there wasn̢۪t some level of water in the base of the structure to perfectly reflect the tower though I do like the subtle suggestion of reflection we have here. The tower with its head in the clouds helps to accentuate its height making it even more grandiose. Congratulations Janine on the high score and placing. |

walking on the seaby HoghemaruComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
The pier is indeed a notable landmark that blends in well with the tones of the pier itself and those of the sunset and its reflection in the water. The composition of such a shot is determined by the structure itself and leaves little room for anything really creative apart from using the lower third, as you have done, but I̢۪m sort of wondering how it would have looked using the upper third with water dominating the lower half as opposed to the rather bland sky. It all feels rather deserted though I can see its not, I think waiting for a person walking their dog into the frame from the right would have livened it up too. Sorry for the lack of comments during the challenge Fabio, I hope this makes up for it. |

Parliament of Budapestby riotComment: Hello from the critique club

What a lovely interesting building this is. I̢۪m not sure about the bench, this is a conscious choice you have made to make your image more unique and give it a somewhat quirky feel but it doesn̢۪t really work for me to be honest, I would have preferred the plain grassy expanse. The lighting is good in the way it is bringing out all the interesting detail in the front facade. |

The old cotton mill in Rossendaleby docjonnyComment: Hello from the critique club

This looks an interesting location with the chimney forming a key part and influencing your choice of composition. I like the mono conversion though personally I think there is scope to make it a little darker throughout to give it a bit more body. The side lighting on the facing building enhances the textures of the brickwork nicely and the trees are quite vibrant too. A commendable job, well done Jonathon. |

Still Life with Fruit by riotComment: Hello from the critique club
An excellent image that meets the challenge fully
Yet another well deserved ribbon! First of all, a great concept, very well thought through and excellent execution, the lighting, perspective and DOF are all perfect and all enhanced with a great title. Thanks for the detailed write-up and the outtake I concur with your choice this is the better of the two. Everything about this image is wonderful and I would be really struggling to find fault with it. The lighting is spot on throughout both for the fruit and the model, the composition is perfect, but what really makes it is the subtle seductiveness of the lady, what is and is not revealed places it on another higher level. I really struggle to understand the logic behind the sub 4 scores but the rest of your voters appreciated a great piece of work and second only to gyaban is most commendable. Thanks for once more delighting us with your entry Eugene. |

A Golden Day...by Ja-9Comment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge
Another lovely landscape Janine, the lighting has separated the golden foliage nicely to make it stand out. It would have made it even better if we could have seen more of the foliage in the reflection by removing the immediate foreground and a lower viewpoint. I have to agree with glad̢۪s comments about sharpness there is a lack of it, its only that immediate foreground that does appear sharp which is probably why it is rather more forceful than is desirable. Having said all that the composition is good and generally a very capable image. |

And so it beginsby snafflesComment: Hello from the critique club

‘Ooh that’s nice’ were my words aloud as soon as it appeared! What a wonderful time of year this is, its colours and textures just have to be exploited to the full and your image does just that. I like the frame-filling aspect but its those lovely vibrant colours that hit you smack in the face, delicious! This is purely a personal thing, but I do get rather put off by the almost obligatory raindrops that seem to feature so much nowadays so for me that is the only thing that detracts but I do realise I am very much in the minority on that score. And talking of which well done for such a high one and your placing, a very creditable result Susan. |

tunnel of leavesby HoghemaruComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
I can see why this appealed to you, Fabio it certainly fills the challenge brief of foliage. The foliage is well lit and the scene naturally draws you into the tunnel of foliage. The grass is somewhat saturated and would benefit from easing back a bit to stop it dominating the image in favour of the foliage. A good attempt, thanks for sharing it with us |
