Congratulations for your high score and placing Janine. What a magnificent beast. Technically the shot has perfect DOF and is equally well focused so that the animal stands out nicely from the soft background together with good detail where it matters. Your chosen crop has been commented upon and whilst I don̢۪t have major issues with it I think I would have preferred a portrait orientation with it cropped just behind the front foreleg together with more grass at the base.

A very competent astrophotography shot which judging from your very helpful comments took a lot of careful execution and presumably patience which has been well rewarded with this excellent image. I̢۪m not sure there̢۪s much I can add in terms of critique you obviously have the skills and presented to the right audience I̢۪m sure this would receive the acclaim it deserves.

You have captured your subject in a very appealing pose that also feels quite natural and therefore flattering so well done for that. However, the crucial areas in particular the eyes and face just do not feel sharp enough, it feels almost like camera shake which is quite possible at your shooting speed. The sharpest point appears to be the hair at the back of the head and even this is still a little blurry. I would suggest that shooting at f8 and 1/125 would have given you a sharper image but again all credit to the pose you obviously have the timing but the technicals need a little more work, good luck.

I like the idea and the negative shadows but I am not convinced with the end result. I̢۪m unsure why you have used the larger leaf with the reversed leaf on top? I think this would have worked so much better with just the reversed leaf in the lower right hotspot rather than the large leaf which for me just confuses the whole issue. I do like the diagonal grain of the wood and that is another reason why I think the smaller leaf would have been so much stronger and simpler and therefore more effective.

I have mixed feelings about this Marcel, on the one hand I like that you have thought about creating a more unique composition but I’m not sure it is working as you would like, I say that because the choice of left frame for the ‘base’ leaves it feeling as though it is toppling over and on its way down. The other issue is that these lines are all very strong in themselves, they do not lead in the traditional scene leading sense to a part of the image that you desire to be led into, the choice of subject is totally dominant it is the subject per se.

A very effective composition Fabio. The leading lines are very obvious, I like your choice of viewpoint and whilst this is the obvious choice for composition it is so because it is so effective. The plain sky backdrop adds perfectly, any cloud would have detracted from the end result. I suppose it is possible to argue that more contrast could have altered the image the lower contrast also adds a subtle appeal. A great image Fabio, well done.

A great landscape Benedikt. I have to agree with your commenters there is much the feel of an oil painting about it. In answer to your question about the leading lines, I can understand why you ask the question, whilst they are not prominent I feel that is a strength of the image, the subtlety of the leading lines, they lead without dragging you in, you are ‘led’. I am so envious of your gorgeous Icelandic surroundings, that is not to take away the skills you obviously have in abundance to produce such a splendid work of art, well done.

A great portrait Susan. Excellent use of low key technique, it gives a gritty impression like someone who has emerged from underground labour, he has a determined confident look about him. This really is a minor point but given the low-key nature of the portrait I do find his stubble highlighted rather more than I would like but its not a major issue at all.

On a personal note I’m so pleased for you that your relationship is improving, try to be open-minded as you can, I’m sure the things that you found so attractive before are all still there waiting to be enjoyed againâ€Â¦

This is a lovely graphic image. The shape of the fork̢۪s shadow is beautifully formed whilst also creating a sense of intrigue, it works really well. I also love the detail in the fork itself, a lovely combination of reflections and shades that again works very well, together they make for a very appealing combination. I don̢۪t feel, however, that the background does it full justice, I am imagining what this would look like against a white background and I am even more captivated by the vision I have, nevertheless the important parts are there and working really well, I like it Marcel, well done.

A great action shot that fills the challenge brief well. Your challenge was increased given the restrictions you found imposed upon you but you still have a good viewpoint here together with your timing it makes for an interesting and informative image. I do feel it is lacking in contrast but perhaps you were after a lower key effect. Anyway, good shot Susan, thanks for sharing.
