Great subject matter. Lots of potential with a shot like this. Black and white or selective desaturation would be fun to play with. The focus could be a bit sharper and the sliver of tree at right is a bit distracting, IMHO. I think it might be interesting if you were to take this shot from a lower angle, such as ground level.

I like everything that is going on the shot. It seems complex, but not overly-busy. A closer crop, focusing on the people might also be a good image. I'm envious of your subject matter. Nothing so interesting where I live. Keep up the good work!

Love the colors on this one. Nice use of DOF. I'm torn about the placement of the flower. I'm curious how it would look if it were on the intersection of the upper left third, instead of going off of the top of the image. I'm also seeing quite a few artifacts. Not sure how you are preparing your images, but if you are using Photoshop, this might be a helpful tutorial. Nice work, overall. I can tell that you have a good eye.

The Old Cedar

Lovely old tree. It certainly met the challenge, and I really like the nice, muted tones and the soft lighting. A very challenging subject, and one that is hard to confine within 640 pixels. I think the complexity is what kept me from voting higher on this one. The strong diagonal of the fallen branch is nice, but the overall balance is a bit off with the amount of real estate taken by the trunk and where that line cuts the image. The rest of the branches push it into the "busy" category.

I agree. Tighter crop would help. I do like the purple, however I wonder if it doesn't overwhelm the image a little bit. My eye goes to the purple and stays there. Image meets the challenge perfectly and I hope he is feeling better. Nice capture.
