Simply breathtaking. I'm sure you're getting crucified because there's no paper or scissors, but the hell with that. This is a beautifully executed shot and captures both emotional impact and technical detail. Superb.

Quite a serious job composing and setting this one up. Great concept. The execution seems to be lacking in punch somehow though. Maybe a closer crop, ignoring the points of the blades and the negative space at the top? I'm not sure. Maybe find a way to avoid the awkward wall-mirror-drape complication in the back?? Great concept but probably could have used some tweaking. Are you getting hammered because of no rocks or paper? Thought so.

Beautiful image, and while I love your "paper" idea, I bet you're getting hammered in the voting because "no rocks or scissors," right. Too bad. This is a wonderful shot. Gorgeous color and contrast. A very visually appealing shot. More light on the scissors to make the blue color there pop too, would be my only idea for improvement. Very well done!

Fantastic, what appeal from a simple shot of a scissors. It is this kind of photographic vision that keeps me coming back to this site. Your shot makes it worth it to click through dozens of OK photographs just to wait for that moment of brilliance. About the shot, such excellent visual appeal, such sharp lines and contrasting colors. The bottom part of the orange seems a bit off in color, but that might just be the texture of the plastic itself. This image is my first (and maybe only) 10 of the challenge. Hats off to you.

Birthday Rocks

My first response to the image itself is that, it's kind of messy and a little chaotic. Looking at the title though gives the needed info, wrapping paper undone, and rocks in side. The overall picture feels softly focused, especially on the rocks, which makes it tough to identify what they are at first. The one in the corner looks more like a decorated cookie actually. Frankly, it's not an image that has a lot of eye appeal. It's disorganized and a little messy, and there's lots of distracting lint on the bottom edge. A simpler setup might have been better, maybe a box, opened with paper opened to reveal a rock?
