Thank you for submitting your photo to the People II DPChallenge.

You submission is very appealing in different ways. The focal point of the image is the young dancer"s face and then her eyes. She seems very proud of her dancing clothes and her dancing class experience. You have captured her innocence in a candid style.

Technically you have two major problems. One is the background. The other is her crossed leg posing position. The background was edited too strongly for black, leaving noise, halo affects in the photo. The upper right hand has uneven almost "moire" look to it. "Moire" are uneven color area's that occur when pixels are manipulated. I think black was the correct color for the background. Perhaps having a formal blackground backdrop would have avoided the post processing issues.
Try experimenting with your photo editor, where you don't clone the BG too much. There are many different techniques on the internet on generating backgrounds for a photo shoot.

Secondly, the position of the subjects legs show too much of her lower body. This creates distraction to the viewer.

Your foreground lighting is very good. Giving detail to the dancer's facial expression.

Good photo with lots of potential for improvement.

Good luck in your next DPChallenge.

Beautiful. Bumping up on my second go-round. Love the lighting and her expression - even though I can't tell if she is happy, nervous, contemplative - she's just cute - I'm happy with that. Great job.

She is a litte cutie. The shoes is a bonus. You can tell she is a dancer.

Pretty girl but unflattering pose.

cute - but the lack of backlight
thus having your subjet blend into the background hurts the image

Very cute portrait. I probably would have tried a tighter crop, maybe just the face and folded arms over the leg. Nice job with lighting and the black backdrop.

This shot has a desperate need for a backlight. This would bring your subject out of the shadows and help seperate her from the background. Its okay....next time! :)

Lovely portrait. The black really brings out her beautiful rich coloring.

I really like her expression. The black background and clothing adds mistery to your shot. Good luck!!

Cute picture. My eye is brought to the white line by her shoe and her shoes have caught too much light. This may IMHO have also been better with a lighter color background.

I just calibrated my monitor last night- your background has some consistency issues, particularly around the back of her head and down her back. The position of the model feels somewhat uncomfortable, and my eye keeps going to the bottom of her shoe and her pantyline- very distracting. Great subject, perhaps another image from the shoot might have been stronger.

almost looks great but there's some sort of residual editting effect in the top left
