Shadows and Lightby PennyStreetComment: Nice study in black and white. The almost tentative shadow does well on the textured wall. The dual meaning of "light" is a wink for the viewer. Modest and effective. Handsome. |

Bee's Flowersby pgirish007Comment: Nice depth of focus, throwing the background plants into beautiful softness. The foreground stalk is like a bracelet and jewel. To quibble, I wish it were a bit more off-center. |

watership downby jmritzComment: Lovely, flowing composition. The hydrant, presumably, is the watership, and the grassy bits are the downs. Working hypothesis. In any case, oblique enough to be pleasurably rewarding. If my reading is anywhere close. The rabbit secures it, as anyone who's read the book or seen the movie understands. The black and white treatment imbues it with a mythical mood. |

Fashion Climbingby BarronessComment: Very interesting image, wherein the fabric of the dress carries the whole. The black high heel is a worthy touch. And the flow of the dress is echoed in the flow of the staircase. Packs a punch. |

The Bell Jarby GeneralEComment: Elegant. The precise light on and through the glass seems to ethereally chime. The dark background highlights the silvery and silvery-green sparkle. Comes together quite nicely.
(This was the title I was working on, too, though it didn't get past the mockup. Less glamorous, though -- an upside down raspberry preserves jar, label still on it, and a brass bell. More, uh, rustic.) |

Green Grass, Running Waterby namComment: Lovely colors, the green stems, leaves and bristles, the golden bristles and the pastel sea, which echoes a soft sky and drifting clouds. A day wrought for endless enjoyment. You can feel the breeze, smell the salt water. It simply bursts with sensory imaginings. Fine. |

Lowly Worm Meets the Early Bird by vawendyComment: Striking image of this improbable-looking bird, this ibis. The high key background enhances the otherworldliness of the scene. Nicely declares a difficult title to illustrate. I'm rooting for the worm. |

Happy Feet by rozComment: Simple title, but the image overfills the title. The depth of his happiness is almost beyond comprehension. Additionally, the composition is deftly brought out by subtle, natural layering. The excellent lighting actually seems cast outward from his glowing face. One of the tenderest images I've seen on the site.
Personal favorite of the challenge. |
