Church Tower with Birdsby GermaineComment: Beautiful image, so like a Renaissance painting. These newfangled phones are incredible, but of course it's primarily the eye of the photographer. The sunlight and shadows on the church tower are clean, clear and uplifting. The textures and colors are stunning. Very impressive. My camera and I are starting to feel obsolete. |

Whittier Fire Burn Area 2 ("Fire Out" + 14 months)by wbanningComment: This kind of reverses the order of your other image in that here there's only a patch of sky. The results, though, are the same -- another fine picture. Forest depictions can often be an indecipherable mass but here, with liberal spacing, the trees are easily distinguished and have twisty character. The lush, light undergrowth helps to set them apart. The sunlit patch of leaves on the left makes the picture. It's a enchanting focal point. I like how you can feel the terrain, the upward slope. My only quibble is that the vertical pipe on the left is a distraction. |

Whittier Fire Burn Area ("Fire Out" + 14 months)by wbanningComment: Can't see any evidence of fire, or don't know how to look, but I do see a sterling image. A thin strip of land under a vast sky, if done well, can give an awesome result, dramatic and expansive in several ways. This photograph succeeds admirably, not least because the landscape is so minimal. The central inclusion of the graceful telephone line is a bold and winning stroke, considering how detested they tend to be by photographers in most instances. The cloud that billows over the left horizon, and the more wispy cloud that nips below the upper right corner, leave a big open sky between them that adds to the overall minimalism. Black and white looks terrific here. |

Mar 22 - Lineby hajekaComment: Handsome image, almost graph-like in its precision. A textbook illustration of the strong use of lines, anchored and great in b&w. Everything's coming at us, as if borne by a gale. The lamps on the middle of the platform, for example, look like a procession of gulls. Nice work. |

Because you have eyesby mitalapoComment: Very fine, sensitive portrait. I like the lighting and how she fills the frame. It feels casual and comfortable. I also like how the title plays off her downward glance. |

a dog and a bookby rozComment: Now that's curling up with a good book. I like the darkness closing in on all sides but the bottom, the book cover. It blends in with Katee's coloration, which creates an interesting broken pattern. The colorful book really pops out of the image. That's a fine endorsement. |

Calla Combo2by digifotojoComment: While I'm enjoying the shapes generated from the overlap in both images, I prefer this one for its simplicity and graphic drama. These creamy tones look terrific against the black background. |

charcuterie in Lyonby mariucaComment: This is my favorite of your three images. It's active in a direct way, we're being served ourselves amidst the aromas and vibrant colors. The posture and mien of the server play a big part in our enjoyment of the moment you've offered us.

Sunset at Lake Claiborneby crikComment: It's as if the sunset has dropped a flower into the water as an offering to the night. There's a sense of loneliness here, but it may just be my own imposition. Sunsets can feel like a daily onset of winter, if you let them. Nice recession of depth from foreground to deep background. The muted colors, for a sunset, offer serenity among that aforementioned subjective loneliness, a kind word. I also like the silhouetted branches. |

Second Storyby GermaineComment: Enchanting image. Good decision to keep it embedded in the surrounding neutral stucco (?). The colors are lovely, gentle and alluring. Slow and dreamy, with the bed, of course, also with the reflected trees and sky. I like the wordplay of your title, referring also to the story of the room. The possibilities are endless, which imparts a deep resonance to the scene. |
