cityby TiberiusComment: Lovely swooping lines. I like when a photographer is unafraid of large swaths of darkness in an image, as here on the left, which does also happen to include a lot of revealing tonality. I also appreciate the emptiness, but for the person on the bottom who's sort of an apostrophe within the scene. Impressive. |

Evening on the beachby bbrightComment: The flamboyant exuberance of this sunset is marvelous. Not to ignore the excellent sea and setting sun, but the clouds are a buoyant showstopper. They're like an enormous bird, swan or phoenix, swooping in to overwhelm us with boundless power and subtlety. The angle of the shore to the horizon helps establish a strong composition. Fine image. |

Spring Rainby NikonJebComment: An awesome image, so dark, busy and jumbled that the beauty that emerges from it all is stunning. The mood is wonderful, the steady rain, the hubbub of wires, the behind the scene intimacy. This would be some stage set. It wouldn't succeed half as well if it were not in black and white. Hits the spot. One of two personal favorites of the challenge - 10. Thanks for the peek into this moment. |

bird songby instepsComment: There's the internal struggle of how appropriate it is to keep birds in cages - and I've been caught up in it with the parakeets I've had, especially the last two who've had trouble flying and basically stayed within all their lives. Beyond this, and it's no small matter, this is, visually, utterly charming. One of two personal favorites of the challenge and I've given it a ten. |

Consumedby LevTComment: Fine image that allows the girls to be together in their own world. Good capture of their concentration. The jewelry in the window seems to hint at the distractions and obsessions of later years. |

The Wild Sideby glad2badadComment: Tall, bright, waving grasses always thrill me, so this is, personally, a great start. The beauty of the upper third only enhances it, a visual anchor that plays off the near abstraction of the rest of the scene. Handsome image. |

Still Lifeby WildpurpleComment: Nicely sensitive and evocative. It all seems to be floating in water, a tincture of longing. I feel a particular affection for that flower in the upper left corner. |

Truroby Bear_MusicComment: Sepia suits sand, and this recession (procession?) of beach cabins is likewise enhanced by its gentle endowment. The power of this lovely image is driven by its lines, which playfully jut at each other in staccato counterpoint. The out of season stillness is captivating. Satisfying and enjoyable. |

f l i g h tby Bear_MusicComment: Should have fared better. She's playing unawares, while behind her looms the implacable. Rarely have I seen the sea more beautifully presented. |
