Luci's Loungeby ellamayComment: Too bad this didn't do better. Voting is as much about popularity as about technical and creative excellence. As zeuszen says this is myth-making. Love it. |

Reflections of a metal latheby Links 2 3 4Comment: An excellent choice of subject. Unfortunately the scene is rather cluttered and the eye is not drawn to anythign in particular. This is a picture of some lathes rather than a photographic interpretation of design and/or engineering using the lathe as a subject. |

Classicby helgihelgiComment: This subject is certainly a classic of industrial design. But this image doe snot do it justice. Lighting - rather harsh with a lot of reflection around floppy drive. Setting - inappropropriate IMHO - to bring the best out of the shapes it needs to be in a 'studio' setting. Nothing fancy - a dark blanket/sheet/large piece of paper on a table etc. by a window, try different angles, shade the light, add light from a lamp etc. The posibilities are endless and with advanced editing you could (if you have the software) improve things further by adjusting contrast etc. |

Cutting Edge Designby BAMartinComment: An attractive study with good detail and colouration. Only one minor point - on a photo like this the background is important. You've chosen something suitable but I can detect its texture. You really need something absoloutly monochromatic. Or you couod select and apply a blur if you have phot editing software. A minor point though. Good work. |

Skylineby tj_skalkaComment: Potentially a good choice of subject matter. But there's no life in this photo. the sky is bland and washed out. And a composition like this needs to work hard to make an impact. Conventionally lookign up and cutting the bottom half of of trees is not appealing unless there's somethign strong to hold ones attention 'up there' |

Peaceful Ride Up the Mountainby alanfreedComment: Machines to carry people up hills don't convey silence to me I'm afraid. I know that there is a feeling of silence experienced by the passenger but this does not carry over effectively to the observer of the photo. Otherwise a competent photo with pleasing colours. A pity the people are obscured by an empty chair. |

Finally Silentby SkamalComment: Nice composition. A pity that the texture and dimensions of the dress are lost somewhat due to overexposure. the arm is washed out and are the highlights in the face. |

Silence at dawnby kghoshalComment: What a fantastic opportunity! IMHO though the shot would be greatly improved by cropping out the dark shore (?) at the top and the lines (vegetation?)and mooring at the left. This would leave the vessel in a rather more pleasing location more in keeping with the Rule of Thirds. |

Silent Serenityby ArtifactsComment: This is a beautiful image with wonderful lines, textures and colours. For silence however, it's a bit too vibrant for my liking. The exotic nature of the subject gets in the way of transmitting a sense of silence. |

Where You Can Hear Yourself Think by dirtkahunaComment: I like to idea behind this shot a lot. However, I've loooked at it a few times as somethign unsettles me. I think it's the sun behind the tree. It is an interestign effect but I personally find that it distracts from the evocative silence of the landscape. 7 |
