indignationby xburnerxComment: Would have been better without the frame. Cuts too much of your subject for no good visual reason. I like the lighting and the composition. |

Sliding on the Curveby dawn_welshComment: Its ok, but doesn't seem to convey any movement. The back lighting and whiteout at the top is unfortuneate. But I see what you were going for and points for that! |

Don't look backby HayaneComment: Good intensity, nicely framed. The monochromatic treatment makes it happen. |

Burning the Midnight Oilby drydocComment: very well composed but the lighting could be better balanced. The book is lost at the bottom, and so reduces the impact of a nicely composed triplicate subject. |

Exhaustedby e301Comment: A well composed shot. Strong and stark image, conveying a feeling of brooding power. |

Morning light - Bread and knife - Winter 2004.by jjbeguinComment: While I like all the elements of the picture, (the subject, the arrangement, the textures, the monochrome treatment), here is what I think detracts from the whole. If you draw a line down the center, top to bottom, the right half has no real interest. It is just a continuation of elements from the left, and doesn't "become" a negative space. Having all the interest of the subject weighted to the left usually effects one's subconscious as darker, or awry, or discordant. A mental diconnect. This effect does not seem appropriate to the subject, and to my eye, detracts from the overall effectiveness of the picture. A different cropping might make all the difference. |
