35 B.C.by ShamanComment: Holy Roman Empire, Batman!
:-)
(Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.)
I think you've got everything going for the period in this pic. No eveident anachronisms here. The colors are pleasing, the lighting is crisp....it's just not a compelling image. It seems to me to be lacking the kind of information I need to complete the story, to hold my interest--he looks concerned, but what is he reacting to? He holds a pike in one hand, but what's in the hand below the frame? Perhaps in framing to avoid modern-day influences, you have also cut out all meaningful context? |

1952by eweikComment: Now that's a projector!
Prudent use of the star filter.
Lovely rendering of light on the textured surfaces.
The only drawback for this challenge is that one really has to know what they're looking at--wouldn't expect someone opening a time capsule to get it. |

Circa 1865by JeileenComment: The tones are lovely in this photo....it's not always easy to render such a convincing black and white using digital.
Unfortunately, the reflective strips interrupt the "dream" of it being anything older than last year's model of an Amish buggy.
I can understand why you didn't want to crop out that appealing little door in the side of the barn, but that choice has left your main subject dead center sapping the energy out of the wide-angle view. |

1969by 4scoreComment: Nicely done! You seem to have nailed the challenge. Not a true black and white as it would have appeared in '69, but I forgive you. :-) |

2005 In Bloomby Ice-Tea-1983Comment: The dead twig is pure distraction.
The highlights are overexposed.
The saturation on the yellows makes the grass appear unhealthy.
The black shadow is odd as it encounters the lawn.
All of these objectionable traits needed to be addressed at the time you took the photo--break off the twig or pull it out of frame, bracket your exposure, choose a different angle to take the photo from--perhaps putting the shady background behind the blooms.... |

Waiting for Work Depression Era 1929-1939by phylsy7Comment: I llike the angle you've taken on this well-known sculputre at the FDR memorial.
I think a tighter crop to remove the green in the upper right would help carry it off a bit better. This would also be a good image to experiment with B & W or desaturation, I think....as I am pondering what the harsh light and bronze patina do to the interpretation of the image. |

Roll Callby scalvertComment: Have to share this:
I placed a copy of this in my portfolio (it wasn't intentional) and then forgot about it.
My brother found the image and wrote:
"It looks like a photographers convention.
Question: How long does it take to take a group picture of photographers? Answer: I don't know I got distracted when they all exposed themselves."
