John, from your photography to your writing, you are an artist of economy. A peddler of less is more. This gives the curious observer room for interpretation and discovery. Your individual images give us plenty to chew on and in essay format itâs pure visual gluttony.

Thanks for your contributions to this side challenge.

Each photograph on it's own is a story. Interesting how you've included different cultures and places from around the world. The variety of exposure/editing techniques is also a nice surprise. These variation prevent us from becoming to comfortable. Very nicely done! Thanks

Your essay is very personal, emotional, and genuine. Iâm finding it a little more difficult than usual to write a comment. The sense of grieving mixed with humor tells a beautiful story. The photographs on their own are more than capable but your writing brings us closer. So itâs a wonderful combination for telling this heartfelt story. The last shot of the cane leaning agains the wall was the perfect ending. On a technical note, the editing and toning of your images is masterful as usual.

Don, very enjoyable essay that feels like it should be part of a larger collection. Maybe a book? I believe you are getting better at this genre. This has that effortless look that's not effortless at all. It's pure poetry with beautiful relationships between writing and photography. The sum of the pieces is much stronger than the individual parts. I hope youâll continue down this road a while longer.

Between the parts we throw away. Why do we decide to take a picture? This is unique for everybody and Itâs a joy to ride along on your adventure. The first image lets us know this isnât a series of travel brochure photographs. A cracked window, primitive architecture and a folk art painting start us on our way. Your essay is a wonderful collection of glimpses as we travel down the road to Oaxaca. Images 1,3, 7, and 11 are my favorites but everything fits together nicely. Thanks

Paul, another well told story. I particularly like the âhope springs eternalâ transition from small images to large. The perspective change leaves us optimistic and hopeful for the shop owners. Zama Zama is all we can do. As Sarah said, thanks for surprising me each time we do this exercise.

Herman, welcome back!

This is an interesting concept that Iâm not sure Iâve seen before. Your color portraits are like bookends for the b&w closeup. A collection of memories we wonât or canât let go. Almost haunting how they fade in and out. It's hard not to think of mortality when viewing your essay.

Marla, sobering images with the current drought in California. This isnât the California dream that so many seek. Steinbeckâs novel âThe Grapes of Wrathâ comes to mind. A landscape we barely notice as we arrow down the road.

Going back to see what I've missed and stumbled on your toy story shot. A barnyard beauty with plenty of room to wonder. I also noticed you picked up the Ricoh GR. Congratulations! From what I've read it sounds like a great little all-in-one camera.
