Having the rose buds in just slightly different phases of opening seems to have puzzled some folks, but it worked well for me; after all who do we compare ourselves to but our peers. Lovely green bokeh really sets off the buds.

I was sure this was a setup because the guy's technique in hand holding the brick is so amazingly dangerous and stupid! The shot is beautifully done and picking out the brown for the font is perfect. The message left me a touch flat because I have spent more than a few hours on a wet saw and if one of my guys used one like this, I would have bitch slapped him before he ended up in the hospital with a broken finger and my insurance rates went up, not to mention the fact that he is grinding off the diamonds by using such sloppy cutting technique. Sorry, I'm sure no one else was bothered.

By the way, you can pretty much feed your naked hand into the blade and it will not cut you. It only cuts something harder than flesh, like a fingernail or masonry. The danger comes in binding the material you are cutting on the blade, which will slam your hand against the slide board and break the bones in your fingers.

Congratulations, and commiserations. Its a great image, very Suessian and as you said slightly embarrassing to have on the profile page, so now have incentivised yourself to get two scores over 7.257 and get it off the profile page. I have been trying to get my embarrassing image off my profile page for years now . I do love the Easter egg pastel processing you did here.

From your comments " I'm almost ashamed. Almost." You should be ashamed Robert, on two accounts.

1. I spent time and effort far above my normal lazy ways to get my entry and you beat me with this snapshot? (I gave it an 8) At least lie about the effort you put into such nice images.

2. Granted that it is a new santoku, but that inconsistent burr that shows up like a melting frost line is in need of some stropping.

I love everything about this, except the part I hate. That big metal duct is like the sound of a flubbed trombone note in a violin concerto. My eye is bouncing around in all the delicate lines and textures and, smack! It keeps running into that darned duct. Clone, heal, cut and paste, make it go away, it burns!

Nope, I liked the other better. Not that the colors aren't lovely, but I like the radial power of the submitted one.

I'm trying to leave comments on all the shots that I really like, but I have no idea why I like this, there is no single thing I can point to, but....no. I got nothing. Whatever it was you did, it worked.

You wrested some lush tones out of a tired subject matter, playing the blues off against the peachy orange is just lovely, top four.

Yet another great image that is not as good an entry to this challenge as it might have been. The two figure are only that, figures. The lack of detail only tells us where they are, but very little about who they are. That more personal level of information is pretty important in this challenge. Outside of this challenge that defect probably makes for a stronger image, because the sense of place here is amazing, and by not being specific about the individuals in the frame we can imagine ourselves there. Great framing and handling of very tricky light.
