Fire In Its Bellyby PangurbanComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
First thoughts - this definitely met the challenge. Hot air balloons always make for a good subject imho, and nice work catching the flame. That flame definitely added a bit of something special. The colors seem realistic, and not overly saturated. Nothing wrong with the light, although nothing particularly special about it either. (Darn the morning not having been a nice pink sky morning huh?)
For me, I suspect I might have enjoyed the shot either with more of the scene or isolated in the sky. The bit of trees just did not add much to the overall feeling about the image. Had the green coordinated with a color in the balloon, I might have felt differently but as it stands the green of the trees just seemed to pull my attention away a bit from the balloon and cluttered up the scene a bit without giving me feeling for what the surrounding area was like.
All in all I feel like this was a solid entry for the challenge, just maybe not as compositionally as strong as some of the higher scoring images in the challenge.

Raining Under Manhattan Bridgeby instepsComment: Wow, I love this. Real life, color, feeling, and sound. Just wonderful. It felt like the start to a novel. New York City is still a place on my bucket list. I've traveled all over but have yet to see that amazing city. (Hopefully next fall with my mom, fingers crossed.) But a week won't be enough time to see much past the lights and glitz that will undoubtedly grab this rural gal's attention. Thanks for this, a great visit to an interesting locale. |

Sunrise at Mom'sby JakeKurdsjukComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Well, this was one of my favorites from this challenge, which always makes a critique more challenging. I loved the colors in the sky and the symmetry provided by the reflection. The near silhouette made the image very real for me. I liked the spread of trees through the whole image, but I suppose if I have to find something I thought might be a weakness, the right side of the image seemed a bit heavier with those larger trees and the movement of the clouds seem to stop over on the right. (My brain is very concrete, so likes complete symmetry a lot, the little tree on the far left just didn't stand out as strongly as the other trees.)
But you scored very highly in the challenge, and during voting I thought this was a very strong image and was really well done. |

verdant islandsby tomeComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
I have mixed feelings when looking at this image. The dynamic range seems really good - I like how the images shows very dark darkness and very white brightness. The composition is nice, I like the symmetry of the waterway and the 'island' provides a nice central item for the eye to land on. But I missed color in the image, the darkness was a bit much dark for me and I kept thinking 'cemetary' for some reason.
This scored well in the challenge, so you connected highly with a number of voters. Well done with that! To get the kind of range and detail from a cell phone image is pretty cool. Great choice for the challenge. |
