Love it. I had the same idea, but this much is better executed. I like your choice to look off camera. Love the detail in the ceiling, the sangles and curves and how it contrasts with the blur of the passers by.
Crowd sized didn't seem to matter. At times I had tons of folks. They got out of the way and created a path around me. If I moved the camera back and the crowd was large, you couldn't see me.

I am enthralled with this photo. Just fantastic. I think as far as crowds go, a crowd of thistles is not quite what is meant by the challenge. However, if you are a drunk Scottsman, perhaps that just doesn't matter. Just doesn't matter.
