poor little guy...
as gritty and unappealing a scene as you present here, you have done a great job of capturing the abandonment of childish attachments here.

sorry, not feeling the abandonment here. narrow DoF on a model with nothing else in focus bring the focus to her and not to the fact she was left behind. there is literally nothing else but her to this picture, that's more contrary to the theme than anything. having her "abandoned in a sea of people" where nobody is paying any attention to her, or having more clearly defined environmental details could bring more emphasis to her apparent plight in my opinion.

i don't get the feeling that i'm sure you're trying to convey here. to me this is an empty beach scene with a ghosted out blur (assuming it's meant to represent someone who left) but there is no indication that they abandoned you or their life in general.
a person looking towards the ocean, holding a memento of the departed, or a flower on the ground and walking away with the head down could convey the sense of loss of the person, but i do not feel that loss based on the scene you present here.

definitely gives the abandoned feeling.
having more than one side of the building in frame could help with the perspective (and possibly your score if this is in the mid 4's as i'm guessing - especially after reading the scores thread).
overgrown bushes are a nice touch, but feel too cramped on top of your subject.

overall not the greatest presentation of an abandoned house as you can barely see the boarded up window and the (i'm guessing fencing?) is obscuring much of the rest of the scene including what looks to be an open door.
could equally be a house that does not have owners that are capable/willing of keeping it 'pretty', but have not yet abandoned it.

definitely gives the feeling of an outdated piece of equipment that has been left behind for "bigger and better". For all we know, this whole building was the old firehouse and is as abandoned as the truck it still houses.
biggest drawback for the abandoned theme is the wood in the lower left corner - it looks too 'new' to have been abandoned with the building in the state it's in - it looks like it's about to receive an overhaul to the premesis.
still, a great image for the building/truck in feeling their disrepair/abandonment

doesn't really look abandoned to me.
not in use, sure, but the scene is still very clean and lacking a sense of duration of abandonment. for all the viewer knows, you were sitting here before you took the picture, and then you sat back down. if so, the chair wasn't actually abandoned, just temporarily vacated.
if you're saying that someone abandoned you, there is no other presence in this picture, looking wistfully into the distance waiting for the person to return.

if the house was abandoned, can they really be burglars? ;)
i'd comment about blurriness/focus, but i have a feeling this is a rhetoric i've said on your images before many times. i have a sneaking suspicion that this will hang in the posthumous gallery with a red portrait icon.

based on your title, i'm going to have to say this should be dq'd.
the image has to be taken by you, after the challenge was announced. images taken before this cannot be used, so since was 'long ago' in another galaxy, this would definitely be outside the 1 week period in which the challenge was announced and accepting entries. ;-)

shallow DoF would be better emphasized if you got a good look at the hatchling's face instead of just the mouth a pile of what i'm assuming is feathers.
hopefully the mother didn't actually abandon the next if she caught a strange scene around the nest
