Weston's Tomatoesby littlemavComment: The tomatoes don't seem to be in focus and there's too much depth apparent overall. Form isn't the star and to me isn't even very interesting in this shot. I think this is an interesting shot, but it doesn't resonate Weston to me. |

Maryby moswynComment: I like that you forsake Weston's bw. Sadly I don't think it helps. This is a nice shot, I really sense emotion from the subject and feel like I can identify with how she feels somehow. I think this kind of empathy is conspicuously missing from Weston's work (my opinion). So, I think it misses the Weston style, but is a great shot! |

Barn, King County, 2011by wyverndragonComment: My read on Weston's building shots, particularly barns, is that he treats them like American Gothic. Matter of fact, not flattering, dead center, no drama. This is a beautiful shot of a barn, I like it a lot. I don't think it reflects Weston's style though. |

Curves of Seductionby mgarsteckComment: I like this shot a lot, but it doesn't seem Westony to me. I think this approach has promise and is certainly a creative way to try to capture the Weston spirit. As much as I love the intensity gradient on the edges of the Tronesque smoke, it evokes the sense of depth that Weston seems to flatten out into abstraction. Whether or not the trailing/weaker edges of the smoke are in focus, they seem out of focus, again defeating what I think Weston would strive for in this shot. Finally, I don't think the form is the star here and it doesn't lend for ambiguity. The smoke itself automatically lends itself to abstraction, so it can't be abstracted further. A tighter crop may have tricked the eye into seeing something else, and that's where I think this type of approach could have some Westonish promise. As is I think it misses that mark. |

Wall, Door, and Lonely Shoes, 2011 (WDL-R-1)by LandzEncaComment: Hmm, seems a stretch for the Weston but I'll allow it ;). I like the focus, contrast, balance of light and dark, and overall composition for Wesontality. It doesn't seem Westony but it feels Westony to me. I will say I like it. |

my right footby whiteroomComment: I don't know if I haven't seen the right Weston photos, but this seems way off the mark to me. I like the shot, I am compelled to keep looking at it and enjoy figuring out what I think it all is. Still, it does not seem at all Westony to me. Most importantly I don't think he would approve of the halo/glow. Nor do I think he would shoot through a fan so beautifully out of focus (or whatever that is -- are you on a boat?). |

Delicateby AdzComment: Interesting. First off I really like this shot (favorited). However, I don't see how this is supposed to relate to Weston's work. The shallow DOF seems complete contrary to his approach, and I think this kills any chances of your shot prioritizing (and possibly abstracting through flattening) form. |

Cabbage Headby MinsoPhotoComment: Great shot, I really like the sharp focus. I think it misses the Weston mark though. I don't think this emphasizes form abstracting away the actual object enough. I think Weston's cabbage shots were all leaves draped like dresses or tightly cropped cross sections. As is this doesn't say Weston to me. |

topological fruitby tnunComment: I think I see what you were going for. I like it, but I think it misses the Weston mark. In a shot like this I think he would have captured more curves and avoided a central focal point. As it is, I think you ended up with pie slices instead of compelling form. |

White Oakby tvsometimeComment: Brilliant! It was a delayed reaction for me to see what I think I'm supposed to see. I think very Weston. Well played. I just wish it had richer darks. |
