Bike Rentalsby sherComment: *Critique Club*
FIRST IMPRESSION: Good find and a good photograph!
CHALLENGE: Meets che challenge.
COMPOSITION: Composition is very good, I like how you placed the bicycle at the left side and included a long view of the sidewalk. It suggests the idea that there's somewhere interesting beyond to ride the bicycle. The shot does seem to be leaning slightly right though (it needs a slight counterclockwise rotation to be level I think)
TECHNICAL: All technical aspects are excellent. Black and white was a good choice to add an old-time feel and bring out the light and shadow.
CONCLUSION: A good, solid entry to this challenge.

Another Timeby TarbiniComment: *Critique Club*
FIRST IMPRESSION: Great farmhouse landscape and the soft focus works.
CHALLENGE: As this is one image split into three, I feel this does not strictly meet the challenge. It was composed with the challenge in mind, however, so I would score it higher than a shot which totally disregarded the challenge.
COMPOSITION: The composition overall is good. Excellent choice of "matting" around the images. Individually the rightmost image lacks an "anchor" to hold the viewer's attention, but the images in this composition are clearly not meant to be viewed individually but rather as part of a whole, so this is a non-issue.
TECHNICAL: The technical aspects of this composition are excellent. The soft focus is clearly intentional and adds to the overall mood of the shot. The stepped up saturation also adds to the feel of the shot.
CONCLUSION: An excellent composition, very well done and professional-looking. I'm surprised that the voters didn't take issue with the challenge interpretation and score this lower, however that does not take away from the fact that I feel this is a very strong composition.

Know your beneficial insects: Flies in Green, Gold and Blueby BudweezerComment: *Critique Club*
FIRST IMPRESSION: Great theme, outstanding macros, but that red spot is distracting.
CHALLENGE: Meets the challenge.
COMPOSITION: The composition of the individual shots and the group is excellent. Given the editing rules were suspended for this challenge I wonder if you could have altered to color of the red spot on the leaf in Photoshop. It keeps pulling my eye back from anything else I want to loo at.
TECHNICAL: The technical aspects of these shots are excellent. I like the short depth of field and the exposure is outstanding.
CONCLUSION: a strong composition, and deserving of it's 6+ score.

Rainier Triptychby SwashbucklerComment: *Critique Club*
FIRST IMPRESSION: Incredible series of shots. I love the way you show the changes in lighting and mood between the different images.
CHALLENGE: Meets the challenge.
COMPOSITION: Excellent composition of the indicidual and combined images. Though normally I might suggest a UV filter to reduce haze, in this case I think the haze adds to the shot.
TECHNICAL: Technical aspects of these images are excellent. Good move to go with a consistent aperture between images. Exposure and levels are solid, consistent, and flow nicely.
CONCLUSION: An excellent series of images, in my opinion one of the strongest in this challenge.

Butterfly Superposed Imagesby nathaliedooComment: *Critique Club*
FIRST IMPRESSION: Vivid color, but not sure what the extra frame adds.
CHALLENGE: As the challenge called for two or three separate photographs, I don't think this really meets the challenge as intended. That said, a few other people interpreted this the same way, so I do not think this totally missed the point, either.
COMPOSITION: The composition of this shot is very strong, though the angle at which you took the shot results in harsh reflections off the leaves.
TECHNICAL: I might have preferred the use of a polarizer here to soften the reflections of light in this shot. Also, shooting in macro mode and/or with a larger aperture (smaller f number) would have softened up the background a bit. Given that unlimited editing was allowed you could have simulated the shortened depth of field using Gaussian Blur.
CONCLUSION: Very convincing photoshop work, and a pleasing end result. I don't think that the extra beveled frame around the butterfly adds anything, and I wonder if it would have been better to omit it. Then again, it does add extra punch, so perhaps it is better to keep it.

Mortal Coilby moodvilleComment: *Critique Club*
FIRST IMPRESSION: Very moody, the images tie together well.
CHALLENGE: Meets the challenge.
COMPOSITION: Individually and as a group these are composed very well. I might have liked a tighter crop on the rightmost image as that would be consistent with the others.
TECHNICAL: The technical aspects of these images are excellent; again my only issue is with the rightmost image, which appears to have a graininess not present in the others.
CONCLUSION: This is a high-quality submission that holds a lot of interest for me. It is interesting not only for its overy theme but also as a study of lighting and mood.
