Reminds me of the Jim Hightower book title "There's Nothing in the Middle of the Road Except Yellow Stripes and Dead Armadillos."

Interesting candid -- those spots in the middle remind me of the Geico "googly eyes" so ubiquitous in recent commercials. :-)

Very nice depiction of "space travel," though I think the sun-roof doesn't quite fit my impression of a spaceship flight deck.

I really like the color contrasts in the various reflections -- makes it into a great abstract. Excellent composition arranging the various elements.

I sure don't think of large bodies of water when I think of Dallas! Nice and unusual ...

Really like the contrast between the bright foreground and the stormy sky -- makes me want to look around for a rainbow somewhere. Good use of the HDR technique to make an image which looks "real" ...

Considering the results of the Ansel Adams challenge, it seems in the top 10-15 is a "typical" finish ...

As I was scrolling through the top results, this bright bit hit me and my first reaction also was that it was the least heida-like so far ...my second that at least someone realized that a limited palette didn't equal "dark" ... ;-)

Congratulations!

FWIW, my mom knew Charlie Chaplin ...

Shallow DOF is fine by me, and those eyes are very bright!

Since you say he wasn't moving around, you could have tried taking multiple images with different focal planes, and then combining them in post processing to artificially increase the DOF. I've never done it, but it is one if the uses of multiple images specifically allowed under the Advanced Rules.

Still, I think those bright eyes helped get you the extra 3/4 point you scored over my bumblebee. ;-)

It's interesting to see these things in their native habitat -- I got to see a "Corpse Flower" (another giant) from the neighboring island of Sumatra in bloom last year at the UC Botabical Garden
