Slight Mishapby BlackboxComment: Action photography is fun - unfortunately, I never have my camera with me with I come across something like this. Great action image with everything well controlled and nothing out of sorts. Nice job. |

Mr. Lee, 81by mpetersComment: An excellant candid portrait of a venerable character - the bike repair man. The author has obviously used flash, but it's not that noticable - the various highlights are not overdone, the setting is very natural, the pose is perfect capture of a moment in time. This would be a good subject for a photo journal piece on the life and times of a mechanic. Nicely done - one of my favorites so far. |

The Lighthouse at Point Abino - 1917by david_cComment: A technique that sometimes is overused, but it works just fine in this case. A very different and unique image using an overused technique. I also like the very slight blue color cast to the rest of the image - I believe that makes the difference here. Nicely framed, composed and executed - well done. |

Etiquette Faux Pasby fisheyeComment: I might have titled this "Lunch", but hey. :>) There's not a lot to say here - it's a good solid image, excellant color control, solid DOF - very different image that is not a normal "fauna" capture. On the other hand, it's a bird eating meal worms - what can you say? :>) Nicely done - a good solid entry into the challenge. |

- Mastering the Wind -by MilesWComment: Why bother saying anything other than WOW!! An incredible shot rich in detail, color and action - a very difficult type of image to properly capture and produce. Well done. |

in peace...by edmengComment: The temptation here is to over critique not for content or artistic value, but for technical issues. Part of the problem when reviewing images like this is that the perceived technical issues are actually intertwined with the artistic impact of the image. In any critigue, it is paramount to consider what the author intended and in this case, the "technical issues" aren't as important as what the author intended to impart. This image has a very etheral and/or unwordly feel to it - almost as if the author had penetrated the wall between reality and the NeverNever land of the Fey. This image has a lot of artistic impact and the author should be congratulated for producing a powerful, almost iconic, image of somewhere else. Well done. |

once I stood tallby StagoleeComment: My initial impression was not positive, but after looking at it a second time, I can see what the author saw - it works and is very effective. There is a subtle and somewhat intriguing light angle that works on several levels and with the unusual background, the very slight valley fog increases it's artistic value which, I must admit, I missed the first time around. A couple of minor technical issues which are not worth mentioning as they don't negatively impact the image. Very nicely done. |

Passage of Timeby LeoComment: This has some overall artistic impact, but the variations of contrast and the extreme under saturation of color are jarring and not at all pleasing to the eye. This might have worked much better with a little more exposure to extract some details of the wreck and much more tighter control over the background which is washed out and rather straight. It might have been a better approach to try different angles viewing through the ribs of the vessel or maybe even along the length of the wreck. A little more thought would have helped a lot. |

Tank Girlby JaimeVinasComment: "Tank Girl" might well be the cause of an indie counterculture revolution by empowering the punk rock female in protest to the overwhelming male dominance of the genre. Obviously the accoutrements are here and the attitude is present, but the overall impression is of the fresh faced ingenue playing dress up which is pretty much the opposite of what "Tank Girl" is all about. :>) Having said that, it's a very cool image - the face is just a little over exposed which may contribute to the "innocent" feel of the model which is at direct opposites to the zeitgeist of "Tank Girl". Still, from a technical standard it's great - artistically, I think it falls a little short of having the intended impact. |

Dazzled in the Souksby pirsotComment: There is something interesting here and I'm not sure the author knows it. There is a significant difference between the right and left of the image - I'm not going to mention it, but it makes the image much more interesting. The subject seems a little washed out in comparison to the rich and detailed background, but that may be due to the lighting. It might have made for an interesting image if the author had tightened up on the subject a little more and faded the background, but it's great as it is. No major technical or artistic problems of note. Well done. |
