In response to your thread, I would probably have scored this 5, perhaps lower. To me the picture is lacking interest. I have no connection with the child, so like others have said, it feels like a family snapshot.

The ball is also just in the way, it serves no context, if you were at the beach for instance, that would be different, but as it stands it's just a colourful out of focus toy taking attention away from the main subject.

Eye contact is also important, a close to impossible task with children I know, but it also contributes to the lack of interest / connection people felt with the shot.

You know I've stopped to look at this for some time, to try and see what you saw, but I just don't get it!
