This looks like the end of a tassel, probably the kind that is on a graduation cap (or it could be on a bookmark or blanket or pillow). The detail in the cording is good and you used a good DOF but the centered composition and the plain grey background is not helping the photo.

A good idea. Neat colors. The lighting and focus are very good. I think the shot could maybe benefit from a more dynamic composition. Maybe at an angle across the frame, or even formed in a 'S' type curve, or a more dramatic point of view, something other than just straight on and centered in the frame.
My guess- the tassels on a graduation cap :-)
