Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I really didn't know what I was in store for here, thus why I just pointed and clicked. There was no cropping and no Photoshop work done to the picture.

I'm a little confused with everyone saying "where's the blue?" seeing as all the chess pieces and the board are blue. I guess you wanted more blue.

Well......now i've got a better idea of how things work around here and I'm anxious to get to the next challenge.

The photo would be nice if not for the background... I don't get the title either.

Where's the blue? Blue with envy? Nice chess set. Nice focus. A little dark. Cropped a little tight, making for a crowded look. Great depth. Very good shot, but I can't find the blue. PTL 7

Hey that is my Chess set. I have taklen pictures of it before like you. The sun is way too harsh. Remember that the eye is drawn to the lightest part of the photograph. I do not think you want people to be looking at the sun here.

Try to use a more suitable background for your picture.

I like how the back pieces are in focus through the front ones, but I think you should use a black background, as the blinds and sun flare really setract from the photo.

Interesting shot, but I'm a bit confused about the "blue" part. Sad about losing the game? Pretty divided about the sun glare, I like the strong lighting it provides, but the glare aspect isn't eye pleasing. Focus seems a tad off. 6 Swash

The reflection on the window is a major problem with this image. It draws attention away from the chess game and to the window. But, I like the reflections of the game pieces in the board.

give us blue...

i like the blinds and reflection of the blinds, it makes the picture very interesting.

You really want to see this chess set turn blue??? //www3.photosig.com/viewphoto.php?id=466456

We don't see the checkmate, just the king and queen.. wait, the game wasn't even played!!

nothing blue of is this grey blue??

This is very nicely done. I'd only change one little thing......move over to the right a bit...I guess it just bothers me the center piece is centered with the window division. Is that too stupid? I do like this and one of the most eye catching features is the reflection on the table. Justine

where's the blue here?

Nice picture, but there's no blue in it!

the light is cool
the background is not very artistic

The bright light in the window is a shame. Otherwise I like the shot - but I wonder if you could have changed the coloring a bit to give the pieces more of a blue look?

i like the chess men a lot...... the near sand blasted men at first appeared slightly out of focus....... but i think that is just the nature of thier physical texture. The far clear men appear to be in focus. Actually the visual components of the picture are, all in focus - this is a very neat trick using the chess men to create an illusion of near field soft focus. This is a picture to be utilized in understanding depth of field and optical illusion. I love this photograph. It teaches, it is visually elegant. I will be looking at this one for a long time. undieyatch

hmmm, ok, this is a great depth of field photo.. I love the frosted pieces in the foreground contrasting the clear pieces behind.. BUT... not quite enough blue, I wont go as far as saying it doesn't meet the challenge, but its defintely borderline... 6 marksimms

It looks like a fresh board to me... A different set up of the board would have been more conviencing of "check mate" which could make me feel blue... Though overall this picture doesn't seem to fit this challenge well.

There are a few things I don't like about this photo... 1) while checkmate does make you blue, it's not clear who's doing the checkmating and also, the pieces are not in position to checkmate, which makes it seem as if you put a title on a picture 2) The light coming in at the top left distracts my eyes... which is not a good thing. 3) The background is bothersome. Things I like 1) the blueish tint to the pieces which helps the photo 2) the focus 3) imagination! Good luck!

Although this shot has potential to be a very interesting photo, I don't think or see blue when I look at it. That aside, the blinds don't make for a good background. I think this same shot with a solid background ( black cloth, maybe) would really be a great picture. With a black background you also wouldn't have the hot spot from the flash.

I would rather see it actually in a checkmate position... otherwise it's pretty
